ATV Dominican Adventure
Start this great adventure by meeting with your friendly, local guide just outside your Amber Cove, Puerto Plata cruise ship pier area. Climb aboard the comfortable transportation for a short, 2-minute ride to the ATV base camp.
The base is located at a private, local ranch complete with picturesque lush, tropical vegetation, fun trails, and small streams. Once you've arrive, you will be matched up with a Honda 420cc 4X4 ATV. You will be given brief safety instructions, but these are very simple to drive. In fact, beginners are welcome and there's no license required to drive. Once you're on your ATV and strap on your helmet (mandatory), it's time to follow your guide through the ranch, past little houses and farms where you will see the authentic countryside.
Drive your ATV on various terrains including two beaches and through the ever-changing countryside. You will ride for approximately 15 minutes to Teco's Beach, make a stop for a quick dip in the ocean if you wish or simply enjoy the view and a refreshment.
Next, make your way to another ranch where you can stop and shop for souvenirs such as cigars, cacao, and coffee. Take the opportunity to taste samples of the variety of goods before deciding what you like the best, approximate time spent here will be 15 minutes.
Then you're off riding once again to Guzmansito Beach, approximately 10 minutes away, where you will get a chance to ride along the beach and enjoy the views. This is a pristine, secluded beach where you can stop for more refreshments and some photos.
Make an optional stop at Martin's gift shop where guests can see local handicrafts, stones from the Dominican mines, local clothing and more.
Your ATV excursion ends with a 20-minute drive back to the ranch base and then your guide will escort you back to the cruise ship terminal.
Total ATV riding time is approximately 2.5 hours.

We really enjoyed this excursion! A 3 hour atv adventure going up a mountain, It was very adventurous. we stopped at a couple different sites on the way and checked out a beach, some local people and the way they live and some exotic animals, also we stopped at a small plantation were they grow there own coffee beans and chocolate, were also able to purchase some to take home. we also seen how cigars are made and were also able to purchase some. It was well worth the money.

Could not have had a better experience. The staff was wonderful. Went out of there way to show us the local life style and show us some of the island. I would greatly recommend this trip. My husband, son and I went to lunch at a local fish market with our guide after the excursion. We were made to feel very welcome.

This excursion is partly about the ATV's (in great condition and fun to drive) but the best part of this excursion was getting to know our guides and the people of the island. We made several interesting stops, two of them included opportunities to buy things. There was no pressure, but I was very pleased to buy a few souvenirs at both locations - most items were handmade and not the typical mass-produced tourist merchandise you find in the typical gift shops. I HIGHLY recommend this excursion. The only tricky part was locating the pickup spot. The map wasn't exactly to scale and we weren't completely sure we were going to find it as we kept walking and looking for it. It really is outside the pier area - basically a "pull off" of the main road, used by excursions not associated with the cruise line. We felt perfectly safe and the hosts were there waiting - but we also felt a little lost till we found the spot.
