Discover Bay of Plenty
Departing the pier, you will drive along the shores of the local beaches in your mini-coach before driving through the heart of the city. You will pass through two of Taurangas suburbs, one old and the other new.
A stop will be made at a historic Cargo Shed Building located on the shore of Tauranga's Central Business District. Another stop will be made at a commercial kiwifruit orchard and fruit shop, where you will not only have the opportunity to sample the varieties of kiwifruit, but also learn of this billion dollar Industry and the challenging times it now faces.
Your trip continues onward and upward as we make the drive up to Minden Scenic Lookout, offering a premium vantage point over the city and expansive Tauranga harbor.
Next, we will tour through McLaren Park, seeing the Arboretum and popular recreational lake. A stop for lunch will be made at the Kaimai Country Caf where you will have the opportunity to purchase lunch on your own. Make sure you try their specialty, the open faced Lamb sandwich, featuring local New Zealand lamb.
After lunch amongst the locals, we continue on to the dramatic McLaren Falls. This is the junction of two river systems and a popular place for local people to swim and where brave youth dive from breath taking heights.
Now for a little extra fun.... We will board a 4wd bus and enjoy exclusive entry to the Lost World" Omanawa Falls, these scenic falls will take your breath away and will undoubtedly be a highlight of your Tauranga visit.
During the drive back to the pier, a stop will be made at Mossops Manuka Honey Shoppe a boutique honey business where you will have the opportunity to buy the famous anti-bacterial Manuka honey products. Another tasty treat for purchase is real creamy dairy milk ice-crme.
Andy, our guide, was very informative and funny. The waterfalls were beautiful. Great way to see the interior of the north island of New Zealand.
The guide, Harry, is knowledgeable and personable. He understood the products (kiwi, honey). He also explained the different sections of the island. We did not need to understand the value of different neighborhoods. The tour could have been a little shorter. I did enjoy the McLaren Park, Mossop Bee Farm, Beach, old wharf craft shop.
Our Guide went above and beyond to show us the New Zealand he loved. An interesting , educational day. From the Kiwi Orchard, a great opportunity to enjoy a local restaurant, many photo stops, the Omanawa Falls was outstanding. Nice to have a small group...a very relaxing day. Would recommend this trip.
