Bear Country and Wildlife Hike

Ketchikan is located at the southernmost entrance to Alaska's network of waterways that slithers through some of the most grandiose wilderness in the world. Ketchikan Creek served as a summer fish camp for Tlingit natives.

Your guide will take you to a viewing platform overlooking a waterfall deep in the forest where salmon school up. There is a 15-minute walk through the woods to access this remote location. As you arrive at the viewing area, your guide will indicate specific points of interest for you to check out some of the native plants and native animals as you continue the search at the Herring Bay wildlife estuary.

The central Ketchikan hatchery is located on the side of this estuary and draws out resident bears for a snack of tasty salmon. Once there, make sure you keep an eye out for bears, eagles, and ravens that frequent the area for their yearly feast.

Please Note: Wildlife sightings are prevalent; however, they cannot be guaranteed. Due to the hike in the forest, this tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
