Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's Tour in Ketchikan, Alaska

Wildlife is everywhere in Alaska! Crabs, eagles, whales, octopus, sea lions, porpoises, wolf eels, sharks and seals are all frequent visitors on the Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's Tour in Ketchikan.

Come aboard the Aleutian Ballad for the adventure of a lifetime! The Aleutian Ballad was made famous in season two of Discovery Channel's award-winning TV series "Deadliest Catch." There are no rough seas here! You will set out in the calm, protected waters of the Inside Passage to witness first-hand the amazing way of life of commercial fishermen. Marvel at the scenic beauty that surrounds you on this Ketchikan shore excursion from the comfort of the heated and sheltered stadium-style seating lower deck or the open-air top deck.

Watch as the skilled crew haul and set long lines, barrel pots, and huge 700 pound king crab pots to reveal the catch of the day. The amazing marine life is placed in an on deck aquarium so everyone can get close to these unique creatures of the sea. This fascinating, educational, and interactive experience is perfect for all ages and is packed with stories and adventures shared by the men and women who risk their lives fishing the Bering Sea.

Please Note: This Ketchikan excursion does NOT go out into the rough waters of the open ocean. It remains in the calm, protected waterways of the Inside Passage surrounding Ketchikan. Snacks are available for purchase on board.

We had the best time on this excursion, well worth the price. Everything was explained and we were able to get up and walk around and ask questions. The best part was the crew had examples of the crab they catch and we could pick it up and hold it all. We were taken on a boat ride and shown how they collect their gear, it was really interesting.

This is a fabulous excursion! We’ve done it twice. The last time, we had my mom in a wheelchair. Staff is so nice and helpful. They treated mom like a Queen! The eagles are just majestic! I’d recommend this excursion to everyone!

THIS is a must do!! The love these people have for what they share is evident in the heartfelt "show" they put on!!! Great info, thoughtful presentation, real life stories and feels - this isn't just another one of "those" excursions. This is a hands on, friendly, welcoming, delicious (YES!! You can eat King Crab on a King Crab boat!!!) and hands-on experience. Looking forward to my next adventure!! THANK you - Pam

This tour gave a “hands on” experience that showed how crab pots were retrieved, emptied, and redeployed. The Captain and his crew gave heart felt accounts of their experiences. They allowed handling of various sea creatures by the spectators which was a delight to adults and children. I consider this one of the top three shore excursion I have taken over some 10 years of cruising.

Best excursion in Alaska

We had the best time on this trip. The stories from the deep sea fisherman were incredible. I could have listened to them talk all day. The sea life and fishing techniques were amazing to see. It was all very interactive and educational. It isn’t advertised such, but this trip has the best bald eagle viewing in the world. We saw 30-40 of them circling overhead, making incredible maneuvers in the air, and dropping down into the water to snatch fish with their feet. It was an unexpected delight. I would do this excursion again without thinking twice.
