Skagway Triple Adventure
Skagway Triple Adventure
Your Skagway Triple Adventure - bike, hike and float - begins in downtown Skagway. Drive 20 minutes to the once famous gold rush community called Dyea. What once was a town with a population of 10,000 prospectors, set at the foot of the Chilkoot Trail to the Klondike, is now just a shadow of what it used to be, but still in a beautiful natural setting. After choosing your bike and a brief orientation, you will set off with your guide on a six-mile bike ride over predominately flat terrain for easy pedaling. During the ride, you will follow dirt roads around the historic town site of Dyea, ride through a temperate rainforest, and see the Chilkoot trailhead. The biking trip takes approximately 1.5 hours.
At the end of the ride, you will make your way to the coastal tidal flats, where you will see colorful foliage, spectacular mountains and the possibility of eagles or other wildlife. You will hike for approximately 1.8 miles over uneven terrain with inclines for the first mile, which then turns into mostly flat ground for the remainder of the hike. During the hike, stops will be made to talk with your guide, admire the scenery and quench your thirst. Drinks will be provided along the way. The hike is approximately 1.5 hours and will end at the Taiya river where your next adventure awaits.
You will be given a life jacket and rubber boots before stepping into your raft and setting off down the river. Your river float will be relaxing as there is no white water and your guide will do all the work. Admire the beautiful scenery, framed by the magnificent mountains. Although wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, they are more apt to happen away from the busy towns out here in the wilderness, so keep your eyes open. The adventure ends with the transfer back to downtown Skagway.
