Cannon Beach and Astoria

On this very special tour you will visit Astoria, an artsy enclave with humble beginnings as a trading post for John Jacob Astor's fur trappers. This city went on to become the first permanent settlement on the west coast of the United States and the first city with a United States post office west of the Rockies.

Head to the popular Astoria Column and ascend 125 feet up for gorgeous panoramic photos of the city and surrounding area.

At the Columbia River Maritime Museum, you will enjoy interactive displays and learn about life and work along the river.

You will also see Megler Bridge, the longest continuous steel cantilever truss bridge in North America with a length of 4.1 miles. This bridge connects Astoria to neighboring Washington State and was the last segment of United States Route 101 to be completed.

Visit Fort Clatsop, the last encampment of the Corps of Discovery where the members camped while waiting for Lewis and Clark at the end of their Expedition. Walk through a fairly accurate replica of the original 1806 fort that decayed due to environmental causes.

From there you will journey south along the spectacular northern Oregon coastline with its steep cliffs, lighthouses and wide, sandy beaches. Keep an eye out for seals sunning themselves on the rocks!

Arrive at Cannon Beach, a quintessential beach town full of artists, shops, restaurants and delicious salt water taffy. Grab a photo or two of Haystack Rock, the giant 72-meter basalt monolith rising from the sea waters and accessible at low tides. This area is a protected marine wildlife sanctuary due to starfish, crab and other animals in the tidal pools as well as a nesting site for many birds including Tufted Puffins and Cormorants.

Travel back to Astoria where you will have the option to explore the waterfront area on your own before returning to your ship.

This 8-hour tour is a must-do for nature lovers and those who love the sea, book today!
