Chilkat Coastal Hike

Hike over the rolling terrain and through the temperate rainforest of Chilkat Lake State Park in Haines. Enjoy magnificent glacier views from across the fjord as you hike to Moose Meadows.

At the start of your tour you will be greeted by your professional and knowledgeable hiking guide, who will introduce you to a remote coastal hike along the Chilkat Inlet. Complete your waiver form and ask any questions or concerns you may have.

Drive for approximately 30-minutes along the Haines Peninsula to Chilkat State Park. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the history and geography of Haines. Enjoy this beautiful drive as it includes many scenic photo opportunities along the way.

Once at the trailhead, the hike begins over rolling terrain through temperate rainforest. Your naturalist guide will talk about the flora and fauna of the region. The trail is slightly rolling as you make your way towards Moose Meadows, aptly named for the occasional moose seen grazing along the seaside.

As you step out onto the beach, you are treated with magnificent glacier views across the fjord. The trail is out and back, so depending on the pace of the group, you may continue south along the coast of the peninsula.

Stop along the way for a picnic lunch with a fantastic view to gaze upon as you relax. After lunch, return through Moose Meadows and make your way back to the pier in Haines.

Very good excursion

The hike was not difficult but I would not recommend it to anyone who is uncomfortable dealing with tree roots and steep inclines at times. The guide was very accommodating and offered walking sticks. She was knowledgeable and friendly.
