Coast and Rainforest Walk
Spend your day exploring New Zealand's epic natural beauty on this guided walking tour from Auckland. Start your day at the threshold of the coastal rainforest, greeted by the impressive Maori carvings outside of the Arataki Visitor Center. The Center's observation decks offer sweeping views of the vast, lush forest, the rugged coastline, and sparkling blue depths of the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean. This is an opportunity to pick up maps, souvenirs, or even an ice cream cone.
For those cruise guests staying in Auckland after your cruise, you can take advantage of this tour from your hotel. You will be picked-up from your hotel in the morning and then be on your way. Your first walk will be a leisurely stroll through the majestic rainforest. A knowledgeable guide will tell you all about the local plant life and history of the park as the cicadas sing and colorful parrots and tui birds flit around the forest. Sparkling streams will lead you to a waterfall where you can soak or swim, or simply enjoy the view.
Following your rainforest walk, stroll on the soft black sand of Piha Beach on the wild western coast. Enjoy the provided picnic lunch, then launch into your third walk where Kauri trees stretch into the sky in the original, unspoiled rainforest. The untouched flora and fauna has flourished for thousands of years; it is like stepping back in time.
This Auckland hiking tour includes a picnic lunch, round trip transportation, and refreshments. Make sure you mention any dietary requirements upon booking.
There were only three of us on this tour, so it made the walks more personal. We totally enjoyed this. The views were inspiring and so was the guide, Dawn. dawn took on some very remote and beautiful walks along the beach. We walked along the cliffs and down into the valley to see waterfalls. Dawn was extremely knowledgeable and her enthusiasm for her environment and country was catching. We stopped at a local art store where we purchased several items done by local artists. We also had food made by the local restaurant. Though we had a major downpour in the rain forest walk, we still learned a great deal from Dawn and would not trade the experience for anything. Ask for Dawn if your booking this tour, you won't be disappointed.
