St. Lucia's creole culture is a rich medley of language, food, folklore, music, and religious traditions dating back to pre-colonial times. The broken French dialect is spoken widely throughout the island but is prevalent in more rural areas where the culture is kept alive by elders of the communities. Folktales of black magic and Compere Lapin are passed down from generation to generation. On this historical and cultural tour, you will experience what rural life was like in olden days in St. Lucia.

As the tour leaves the port and heads north, you will be engaged by your guide, who will be providing you insightful information about the island. Your first stop - Fond La Ti Sab Creole Park, is found in the community of Babonneau and is family owned and operated. The property has a river on either side and is surrounded by lush vegetation and forest. Here you will witness Lucian culture at its best, from traditional log sawing to the preparation of cassava bread. Take a walk through the gardens as your guide introduces you to locally grown produce used every day in Lucian cuisine.

After your crash course in St. Lucia's cultural history, head through the rural communities of Castries passing farmlands and a variety of fruit trees along the way as you arrive at your next and final stop, Howelton Estate. Take in the panoramic views of the harbor, the city, and the north of the island. This estate was a dentist's home where the property sits 800 ft above sea level with stunning views of the city of Castries and currently houses in house studios for local artists as well as a full chocolate production house and retail store. Take advantage and pick up something for yourself or a loved one before you head back to the city.

As you conclude the tour, you will take a drive through the bustling city of Castries, showcasing the life in St. Lucia before you are dropped off at your cruise terminal.

great cultural experience

Went to a working village where they pointed out trees, flowers, & crops. Enjoyed watching them make bread, their instruments, & dancing. Then sampled some fresh baked bread. Interesting and peaceful area and wonderful people. Also went to a mansion where there were many artists and a great gift shop.
