Discover Mexico and Chankanaab Combo

Experience the full spectrum of Mexico's rich heritage, vibrant art, culture, regional cuisine and even tequila before heading off to visit the beautiful Chankanaab Park, where you will have the opportunity to relax or swim in the clear blue waters of Cozumel.

Transfer from the pier area for the short drive to Discover Mexico Park, where upon arrive you'll relax in air-conditioned comfort as you view their exclusive four-screen video collage culminating two years of travel and filming. This award winning presentation brings one of the world's oldest and richest cultures vividly to life. The Museum of Popular Arts showcases works of contemporary folk art created by renowned artisans from all over Mexico, regional art is as varied as its culture. Your tour guide, who will remain with you throughout your visit to the Park, is well versed in all aspects of Mexican culture and history and will be happy to answer any questions.

Afterwards, have full access to the park including the Diorama Garden, featuring a wide variety of indigenous plants and flowers. As you stroll through the garden's broad paths have the chance to view one-of-a-kind dioramas depicting many of Mexico's famous sites. Trace the evolution of Mexico's ancient civilizations as you tour replicas of Chichen Itza and other pyramids built by the early Aztec, Maya, Olmec and Totonac people. The Spanish colonial era is reborn in the park's reproductions of grand monuments, cathedrals, and the Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City's elegant boulevard.

After you've worked up an appetite, it's time to taste the history of Mexico. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious open air lunch, featuring regional Mexican food. Watch hand-made corn tortillas cooked to perfection for your very own taco sampler. Try the habanero chili salsa if you dare!

Before you leave the park be sure to witness the newest attraction, the Papantla Flyers. These daredevils will re-create the heart-stopping performance of the ancient voladores; a ritual dance where participants climb a 30-meter pole and launch themselves, tied only by their feet, toward the ground.

Next on your Cozumel tour you will be transferred to Chankanaab Park, which is a Mayan word meaning "little sea." Located within the National Marine Park of Cozumel, this beautiful beachfront oasis is set on a natural lagoon. Inside the park find botanical gardens containing over 400 plant species, the Sea Lion Show, a white-sand beach, Cozumel's famous aquamarine water and a replica Mayan village.

Stroll through Chankanaab's lush jungle, serene botanical garden or plunge into the lagoon's inviting waters for a guided swim or snorkel among the island's famous coral reefs, and underwater statues. Also on site, for an additional cost, is the Dolphin Discovery, Zipline, and even massages.

Ruy gave us such an informative tour of the Mexico culture and history. I really enjoyed seeing the small duplicates of the different ruins. We had a good lunch. It started raining before our ride to Chankanaab. Lots to do at that park, but the rain did not let up, so we left after an 1/2 hour.

The excursion was exactly as stated. We had a tour of Discover Mexico, lunch and was driven to Chankanaab. The beach was wonderful, along with the free seal show.

4 StarsGreat MuseumApril 09, 2018

Reviewer: Beverly Moon
We thoroughly enjoyed the museum and our guide was very informative. I would have liked to explore the museum more but we had to move on to the outside area. This was very well done and our guide was very informative here also. The pole flyers were fantastic--a must see. Then we moved on to the Park. Since we weren't interested in the swimming area we just explored the park on our own. Nice signage explained everything.
