Discover how the powerful forces of nature have shaped the people and landscape of this dynamic region, Hawaii's largest land district.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is on Hawaii Island (the Big Island). At its heart are the Kilauea and Mauna Loa active volcanoes. The Crater Rim Drive passes steam vents and the Jaggar Museum, which features volcanology exhibits and a viewpoint overlooking Halema'uma'u Crater. Thick ferns mark the entrance to the Thurston Lava Tube (Nahuku). The Chain of Craters Road weaves over lava and trails crisscross the park.
The perfect blend of nature and culture is led by an expert Interpretive Guide; this tour reveals what it's like to live on two active volcanoes.
Discover all the "must see" spots within the Park; including Jaggar Museum, Thurston Lava Tube and Halemaumau Crater.
Sample and shop for award-winning farm fresh coffee at Kau Coffee Mill, along with other Hawaii Island grown treats like macadamia nuts, honey and chocolate.
Walk across a crystal-fine black sand beach as you search for basking sea turtles at Punaluu. Immerse yourself in stories of Hawaiian legends and mythology, with a focus on Pele, Hawaiian goddess of fire, lightning, wind and volcanoes. Explore a lava tube and discover the mysteries of how these tunnels are formed.
Please Note: Guests should be able to hike on uneven or rocky terrain. We sometimes encounter cool, wet or muddy conditions. Other tour restrictions may apply. The longest walk is a short hike of about one mile. Except for the lava tube exploration, the trails are relatively level. While exploring the lava tube, expect to descend and ascend approximately 30 feet. Due to the dynamic nature of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Kilauea Volcano, active lava viewing conditions change daily or even hourly. Walking sticks, day packs and rain ponchos are provided.

We were on the Norwegian cruise of the Hawaiian Islands and this excursion was the second of our trip. It was Tuesday, Feb. 28. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Frank was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He was engaging and informative. We were able to see a lot that day and enjoyed every minute. We would definitely take another tour through that company and specifically ask for tours with Frank.
