Extended Helicopter & Dog Sledding Cruise Tour

Imagine yourself first in a helicopter flying over the Juneau Icefield, and then standing on the runners of a dog sled with a team of huskies loping across the ancient snowfields nestled among the peaks of the vast Juneau Icefield. The lure of the trail and the thrill of driving a dog team create this ultimate experience! This Juneau shore excursion tour lasts approximately two hours from the time it lifts off until it returns to the heliport.

When you arrive at your destination, you will share this adventure with 80 Alaskan huskies and hear unique personal accounts of the Iditarod and backcountry experiences, and have an opportunity to ask questions. Feel the excitement as the team is hooked up, then you're off on this incredible Juneau tour!

Time on the glacier is approximately 60 minutes, which includes an orientation to dog sledding and taking turns on a dog sled ride. Flight time and time on the glacier may vary depending on weather and glacier conditions. Transfer time from the pier to the heliport is approximately 45 minutes each way.

Your helicopter flight will take you over the spectacular rock formations and icefalls of the Juneau Icefield as it heads towards the Herbert Glacier and your knowledgeable pilot-guide will provide expert narration and time to answer questions. You will land on the lower level of the glacier, where the glacial activity is especially pronounced. Features such as moulins, crevasses, moraines, and ice falls all occur at this level of the glacier. During this Juneau excursion, your pilot will be your guide, highlighting natural features and escorting you on an informative, relaxing walk while describing the area that surrounds you. The time on the glacier is approximately 15 minutes. Flight time and time on the glacier will vary depending on weather and glacier conditions.

Enjoy this spectacular Juneau day tour aboard a modern helicopter!

Great excursion. Highly recommend

This excursion was run very professionally and everything ran smoothly. Everyone I encountered was friendly. The helicopter ride was exceptional and the views were beautiful. Dog sledding was so fun. The added landing on a glacier is hard to describe except to say you feel as you have completely left civilization to a place of pure beauty. This excursion was worth the price and I highly recommend it.

Must do trip

If you have to decide on only one Excursion to take, this is the one. From the helicopter ride to the dogs. It was worth the money. It is pricey and not everyone can do it but we had an amazing time.

My 90 year mother, myself and 4 of her grandchildren went on this trip. We all fit in the chopper. This was by far our favorite excursion on our Alaska cruise. Protective waterproof boot covers were given to all of us, so no need to bring boots yourself. The kids helped mom into and out of the chopper since it is a little steep, but otherwise she did great. She's pretty mobile anyway. Kids loved the dogs. We also opted for the extra time on the glacier. We tasted glacier water!

Best of the Excursions

We did many and this one is one of two that didn't disappoint. We scheduled ours in the afternoon to decrease the chance of cancellation due to clouds; I'm glad we did, the first set of flights were cancelled on our day. Coastal Helicopters was very efficient and gave us plenty of time for photographs on the glacier and with the dogs. Our 10 yo son enjoyed it immensely.
