Tour Details

Prepare for an unforgettable day while in Greece when you choose this option that will offer you unique experiences, incredible views, and tastes of the island. Crete is Greece's largest island and is known for its varied terrain which ranges from fine-sand beaches at Elafonisi to the White Mountains. Mt. Ida, the tallest of the range, is home to the Ideon Cave, which was the birthplace of Zeus, according to Greek mythology.

This wonderful excursion offers you the opportunity to combine the north, the south and central Crete all in one day. Your 4x4 vehicle comfortably seats six guests with forward-looking views. In the company of a professionally trained, local guide you will start from the north coast on narrow roads and driving paths that will lead to the first stop of the day, the springs of Argyroupolis.

Ancient Lappa was once a powerful Cretan city. Legend has it that is was founded by Agamemnon, the king of Mycenae, son of King Atreus and Queen Aerope. Today the village of Argyroupolis stands on the site which was once the ancient city of Lappa. Several Venetian mansions can be found here still today and excavations in the area have uncovered remarkable finds which trace back to the Late Geometric period. The springs of Argyroupolis are one of the highlights of the area. Numerous small waterfalls dominate the village, shaded by ancient plane trees. A visit around the small cave-chapel of Agia Dinamis and the springs will offer you the perfect environment to enjoy a morning coffee, tea, or juice.

Relaxed, continue to your next stop, Miriokefala monastery to learn more about Greek Religion. The church of Panagia Antifonitria is located in the village Miriokefala, 29km south of Rethymno and was the central temple of a small monastery The monastery does not operate today and is one of the oldest monasteries in Crete, as according to the will of Saint John the Hermit it was founded around 1020 and was his base for several years. Saint John Xenos or Hermit is a local saint, well known for establishing several small monasteries in West Crete.

Leaving Miriokefala and driving to the Sfakia region, you will pass Kallikratis. Located at an altitude of 750 meters, this area is well known for its ancient history and village. Driving around the typical rocky, wild nature of Crete on a curvy and narrow road, the panoramic scenery will offer a unique and breathtaking view of the south coast of Crete where a stop for pictures is a must at this point.

Arriving on the South Coast you will discover the Venetian Castle of Frangokastello, built on the 14th century and known by the myths of "Drosoulites". The Fortress of Frangokastello is an important historical monument in the region. This castle was built between 1371-1374 BC. The construction work was started by the Venetians, who had conquered Crete at that time. The castle was set up to maintain a military base for the Venetian army.

After feeling the wind in your hair, the sun on your face and smelling the salty sea air, you will no doubt have worked up an appetite. Stop for your delicious and traditional lunch at a location directly by the sea with jaw-dropping views.

After lunch, begin to make your way back to the north and drive next to the Imbros Gorge and make a stop at a family owned winery. Receive a warm welcome upon arrival and relax and enjoy your last stop for the day with a personal and guided tour ending with an amazing wine tasting.
