Spend your afternoon exploring one of France's most renowned attractions, the Palace of Versailles. This structure is full of history, and you'll get to hear all about it from your expert guide. Grab your camera and join this eye-opening small group experience. On this tour of Versailles, you get to skip the line as you follow your guide into this historic palace.
Your tour starts in the early afternoon when you are picked up via minibus for a trip to Versailles. Once you disembark, you'll be in awe of the palace. The immense building served as the home for multiple Kings of France and their courts from 1682 to 1789. Architects and history buffs will have a field day with the Baroque architecture and gaudy furnishings developed by some of the top artisans in that era.
The place offers over 721,000 square feet to explore, and more than 700 rooms! One notable area of the palace is the King's Grand Apartments, which is comprised of seven rooms that are each dedicated to a specific deity. Another highlight is the Hall of Mirrors, where guests were received by the King; the 240-foot-long room is naturally lit by its 17 windows, and the space houses roughly 350 mirrors.
The outdoor areas are equally impressive with their formal gardens. The Gardens of Versailles feature over 380 works of art (predominantly statues) as well as fountains and ponds; it's something you have to see in person. If you visit during the summer, there are planned activities such as fountain shows. Once you're done exploring, you'll hop back into the comfortable vehicle to return to Paris.
