Hanalei Tour

Your Hanalei Tour begins at the spectacular Opaekaa Falls, Kauai's most accessible major waterfall, on the Wailua River in Wailua River State Park. Opaekaa means "rolling shrimp," which were once abundant in the stream. This spectacular 151-foot waterfall is one of the island's few waterfalls that can be seen from the road. Most of the time it falls in a double cascade, however the two sides may become one after a heavy rain. The best time of day to see the falls is in full sunlight when the water sparkles the most.

As the Kauai excursion continues, you'll travel a bit further uphill to the overlook of Wailua River, the only navigable river in the Hawaiian Islands. The river is a long, slowly meandering river that starts at the Wai'ale'ale Crater and is fed by many tributaries on its way to the ocean.

Next on the agenda of your Kauai tour, you'll head to Old Kapaa Town, a quaint 19th century plantation town lined with a variety of unique shops and restaurants, inviting you to take a stroll and see what the local merchants have to offer. The Coconut Marketplace is home to dozens of shops in which you'll find Hawaiian mementos, fine artwork, antiques, jewelry and craft items. You're sure to find the perfect, made in Hawaii keepsake to commemorate your trip to Kapaa.

Your excursion continues to the Hanalei Valley Lookout, offering a perfect view of paradise. You'll be awed by the lush greenery of the taro patches, glimmering green leaves, and the moss-colored mountains, all set against the deep blue Hawaiian sky above and the waterfalls lining Namolokama mountain. See the beauty of Hanalei Valley on this scenic tour from Kauai.
