Chilkoot Trail Hike, Float the Taiya River and Summit White Pass Skagway Excursion

You don't have to choose just one adventure when in Skagway. Embark on the Chilkoot Trail hike, float down the Taiya River, and visit the White Pass summit on this Skagway shore excursion.

Your Skagway adventure tour begins with a comfortable, narrated drive through Skagway to the backcountry and to the historic town of Dyea. At the trailhead of the Chilkoot Trail, you'll begin your approximate 2-mile Chilkoot Trail hike through the centerpiece of the gold rush history in Skagway. This world-famous trail was the main route to the riches of the Klondike during the gold rush. Now a tranquil place of incredible beauty, the trail winds through a lush rainforest alive with birds, animals and wildflowers. Enjoy the exercise, fresh air, beautiful scenery, pristine forests, and history of a bygone era as the trail takes you up and over the tall Saintly Hill. Along the way, your guide weaves an entertaining mix of natural history and Klondike folklore. Photo opportunities abound as you retrace the footsteps of the gold-hungry stampeders who forged this route over 100 years ago.

Your Chilkoot Trail hike will end at the Taiya River put-in site for your float experience. A safety briefing will be provided and rubber boots and life jackets will be handed out to all guests. Your 18-foot raft awaits for the calm scenic float back to Dyea. During this approximately 30-minute float you will see the forest give way to fields of beach greens and wild iris, and the granite walls of the fjords rise steeply to the snow-capped peaks and hanging glaciers. Enjoy a riverside snack of homemade cookies and a hot beverage with countless picture-perfect moments before loading up in the van and heading up to the White Pass summit.

You will drive for approximately 45 minutes from the take-out on the river to the top of the scenic White Pass. Enjoy the many photo opportunities while on the Klondike Highway of beautiful alpine lakes, glaciers, towering snowcapped peaks and pristine forests. You'll also stop at the "Welcome to Alaska" sign for photos. On your return to Skagway, you will cross through US Customs and have a photo stop at Bridal Veil Falls.

Please Note: All guests must bring their passports and sign a liability waiver. A Canadian visa may be required for some participants.

A great interactive tour with knowledgeable guides

This was an outstanding excursion for everyone , our 9 year old boy, to his 77 year old GRANDMA. Everyone agreed, that it sure beats sitting on a train looking out the window for hrs. The guide named Keene was extremely knowledgeable and provided great narrative of history and facts. HE IS ALSO QUITE a photographer, the pictures he took of or family turned out better than all the others we took on the excursion .

Three marvelous tours in one!

Our guide Jake made this tour was So Much Fun! And I really liked the diversity of getting 3 tours in one! The hike through the rain forest has a lot of steep rocky passages, so I was glad Jake made each of us take a walking stick which really helped. Hard to believe the miners carried their gear up and down that trail! The length of the hike gave us time to get to know each other, very relaxed and beautiful. Wear layers you can remove as the rain forest got quite warm. Jake's skill was on display during the float portion, turning the boat often so we could all see the eagles and scenery. This part is cold, you'll want your layers back on and gloves. Then Jake drove us up to the summit, stopping at every turnout so we could take pictures and be awed with the waterfalls and scenery.

Fabulous excursion!

My husband and I were so excited for our hike, float and summit excursion- and it certainly didn't disappoint. Our guide Julia was fabulous, her friendly, humorous and knowledgeable approach to the tour was exactly what we needed. Our group ended up being quite small, so we even got some additional hiking time in - it was a wonderful day.
