Indigenous Fire Walking Ceremony

Mystery Island is a small uninhabited island composed of beautiful pure white sand, palm trees and coral reefs that provide the perfect location to decompress and unwind. Discover the ultimate indigenous fire walking ceremony experience while visiting the South Pacific and Mystery Island. Your adventure begins with a quick and scenic boat ride that will take you to the mainland, Aneityum. Upon arrival, your hosts will greet you with a traditional welcoming performance.

Be handed a delicious, fresh coconut to enjoy before you are entertained with some "kastom" magic involving coconuts. "Kastom" is a pidgin word (Bislama/English) used to refer to traditional culture, including religion, economics, art and magic in Melanesia.

Soon after, you will be seated in the main area where the guides will proceed to light a fire under the stones. As you patiently wait for the stones to heat up, you will experience more "Kastom" magic this time involving kava leaves. In Vanuatu, Kava is not just a food crop; it is a significant part of Vanuatu's "kastom," usually consumed to seal an agreement between people after a long meeting.

Once the stones have heated are hot enough, the fire walking takes place. Make sure to have your camera at the ready as you will want to document this once in a lifetime experience, take home memories to last forever as you can honestly tell your friends and family you witnessed a person walk on fire!
