Whale Watching, Salmon Bake and Mendenhall Glacier Tour

Come face to face with a glacier, marvel at a huge humpback whale leaping out of the water, and top this excitement off with a scrumptious meal featuring wild Alaskan salmon grilled over an alder wood fire on this Juneau excursion. You'll call this combination amazing. We call it the Best of Juneau.

Enjoy a narrated transfer to the spectacular ice wall of the Mendenhall Glacier and its adjacent Visitors Center in Juneau. Tour the grounds, snap photos, take in the interactive exhibits, and turn to a ranger who can satisfy your curiosity about the natural wonders of the Mendenhall.

From Mendenhall Glacier, you'll be transported to Auke Bay. There your captain and onboard naturalist will welcome you aboard our state of the art 48-passenger jet boat custom designed for Juneau whale watching with large windows, an outside viewing deck, and an amplified hydrophone system for listening to whales communicate underwater.

Juneau has a healthy humpback whale population, with some 65 whales returning each season to feed in the nutrient-rich waters, and your captain is well-versed in locating them. In fact, whale sightings are guaranteed! During this Juneau, Whale Watching and Mendenhall Glacier excursion, your captain will let you know when whales are spotted, but it's more likely you'll first be alerted by the collective chorus of "Oohhs!" and "Ahhhs!" from your fellow adventurers as they witness a giant humpback suddenly breach.

Binoculars are available for your use onboard throughout the Juneau excursion. Venture out on the deck to enjoy a panoramic view of your surroundings or to take a photo. Or, settle into your warm and comfortable interior to enjoy the scenery and wildlife sightings through the over-sized windows.

Following your cruise, you're off to the Gold Creek Salmon Bake. In a beautiful setting nestled in the rainforest, you'll be welcomed by the aroma of wild Alaskan salmon grilling over an open alder wood fire. The sumptuous spread has something for everyone, with a variety of Alaskan entrees, sides, and blueberry cake for dessert!

After your meal, roast marshmallows over a crackling campfire, visit the Salmon Creek Trading Post and stroll to the beautiful Salmon Creek waterfall. Take your time! The food, entertainment, activities, and ambiance make Gold Creek Salmon Bake an Alaskan experience that is much more than a meal. With frequent courtesy bus service, you can return at your leisure.

Amazing Whale Watching!
March 05, 2020
This was a great tour to see the best of everything Juneau has to offer. The time at Mendenhall Glacier was just enough although not enough to hike to the waterfall. The whale watching was the most amazing experience. I understand they cannot guarantee what we will see but we saw it all! A pod of Orcas and two Humpbacks. The Humpbacks were so close they had to then the engine off the boat. And to end our adventure with a salmon bake was perfect. Don’t miss the waterfall behind the gift shop! We did have an issue with the bus driver not going to the right place after the Glacier but we didn’t miss out on any of our time whale watching or the salmon bake.

Best of Juneau
December 02, 2019
This was a fantastic trip. Nice drive from the ship to our motor boat. We saw Whales, Sea Lions and Orcas. I’ve been whale watching where there are so many people and levels of the boat so hard to see but this was a small group and they would stop so everyone was able to see. We then took a trip to the glacier. Myself and 2 others hiked to the waterfalls. We had to keep a quick pace since we had limited time but if you’re able bodied then do it. We ended with a beautiful salmon bake. They took so much pride in preparing for us. All the tour operators were professional and nice. Excellent excursion!!

Whale watching/Glacier/Salmon Bake
October 02, 2019
Fantastic!!! Bus diver Al was a local and he was very knowledgeable and had a fantastic personality!! Loved being on his bus! The staff aboard the whale watching vessel was also very informative and we were able to see both fantastic scenery but also a mother humpback teaching her calf how to breach!! The second leg of the excursion was to the Mendenhal glacier all I have to say is AMAZING! Last but certainly not least the salmon bake!! Local fresh caught salmon, salads, baked beans, corn on the cob, corn bread then the most amazing walk in the forest to a waterfall. What could be a better way to end a very memorable day!!

Great Whale Watching
September 28, 2019
The first leg of the Best of Juneau was a short hike to a waterfall, which was quite nice, but nothing special. The second leg was whale watching, which was a great adventure. The third leg was a salmon bake, which was fine but nothing special. Recommend the whale watching only.
