You may see other charming marine mammals such as Steller sea lions, harbor seals, and Dall's porpoises. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, bears, Sitka blacktail deer, and a variety of seabirds, too. After your scenic wildlife search, head to the Gold Creek Salmon Bake, a famous Alaskan feast, to satisfy your appetite.
Begin your Juneau excursion whale-watching adventure with a narrated trip from your port to Auke Bay. A professional ship captain and naturalist welcomes you aboard the North Star, a state-of-the-art 48-passenger jet boat custom-designed for Juneau whale watching. Large windows, an outdoor viewing deck, and an amplified hydrophone system for listening to whales communicate under water provide a unique encounter with the lovable creatures. If the day is clear, you'll have a breathtaking view of the Mendenhall Glacier.
Juneau has a healthy humpback whale population, with some 65 whales returning each season to feed in the nutrient-rich waters, and your captain is well-versed in locating them. In fact, whale sightings are guaranteed! Throughout this Juneau tour, your captain will let you know when whales are spotted, but you'll more likely be notified by the "oohs" and "ahs" from fellow passengers.
Binoculars are available for your use on board. Venture out on the deck to enjoy a panoramic view of your surroundings or to snap a photo. Settle into your warm and comfortable interior surroundings to enjoy the scenery and wildlife sightings through the oversized windows. In addition to Steller sea lions, Dall's porpoises, bald eagles and a variety of sea birds, your naturalist will make sure to scan the shore and point out any bear or blacktail deer sightings and to describe many other aspects of the area's intriguing flora and fauna.
You'll probably be feeling hungry by now on this Juneau shore excursion. It's time for an all-you-can-eat Alaskan feast. The delectable food spread has options for everyone; choose from a variety of Alaskan entrees, sides, and blueberry cake for dessert.
Relax in the event's serene rainforest environment, listening to live Alaskan folk music. The boat captain was excellent at predicting where the whales resurfaced, he turned the boat so both sides received excellent views/pictures and he stayed a little longer since we had great views around our time to leave. The environmental specialist explained what we were seeing and how whales live, swim, eat, etc. She genuinely enjoyed the watching as much as all the passengers. The food and atmosphere at the salmon bake were exceptional and I recommend taking time to walk around and enjoy the nature that surrounds you. It’s extremely appreciative we can get transportation “when we were ready to leave” and that we weren’t restricted to our time to enjoy! By far, one of our favorite excursions!

My husband and I and our two boys (12 and 10) enjoyed a beautiful day whale watching - and saw 5 whales - on a clear blue sky day. The staff was friendly and helpful and took great photos of our family. The salmon bake was a lot of fun with great food and music. It was a great way to end this Alaskan adventure. We highly recommend this tour.

We were lucky and saw several humpback whales, but the real treat was the orcas. They are magnificent.

Did get to see several whales and got some great pics. Didnt get as close as we did last time we went with a different boat- but part of that is where the whales pop up at. The salmon bake had GREAT food and some good live entertainment! Would do it again!

Terry and Katie provided an excellent whale watching excursion. Both were very personable and knowledgable. We caught sight of only one whale during our trip, but being on other whale watch trips, I know it can be hit or miss. Nevertheless, seeing the tail of that humpback was thrilling! The views this day were truly spectacular. No rain, blue skies, mountain tops covered in snow surround by the lush rainforests of the islands. The boat we we rode on didn’t mess around either. It was fast and got us from spot to spot in a flash. The Salmon Bake was unexpectedly down home. Seated in a beautiful backwoods setting with folk music coming from Vicky, we entered a lush green paradise. The food was down home and tasty. The salmon bake was nice and smokey. Once you enjoyed you meal, you could take a short stroll down a path to a beautiful water fall were you could try your hand at panning for gold. I definitely would recommend this trip. It’s quick with lots to see.
