Whale Watching Boat Tour & Salmon Bake Combo Juneau, Alaska

Embark on an exciting cruise to explore the beautiful waters around Juneau. Breathtaking scenery surrounds you as you search for humpback and orca whales (guaranteed sighting). You may see other charming marine mammals such as Steller sea lions, harbor seals, and Dall's porpoises. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, bears, Sitka blacktail deer, and a variety of seabirds, too. After your scenic wildlife search, head to the Gold Creek Salmon Bake, a famous Alaskan feast, to satisfy your appetite.

Begin your Juneau excursion whale-watching adventure with a narrated trip from your port to Auke Bay. A professional ship captain and naturalist welcomes you aboard the North Star, a state-of-the-art 48-passenger jet boat custom-designed for Juneau whale watching. Large windows, an outdoor viewing deck, and an amplified hydrophone system for listening to whales communicate underwater provide a unique encounter with the lovable creatures. If the day is clear, you'll have a breathtaking view of the Mendenhall Glacier.

Juneau has a healthy humpback whale population, with some 65 whales returning each season to feed in the nutrient-rich waters, and your captain is well-versed in locating them. In fact, whale sightings are guaranteed! Throughout this Juneau tour, your captain will let you know when whales are spotted, but you'll more likely be notified by the "oohs" and "ahs" from fellow passengers.

Binoculars are available for use onboard. Venture out on the deck to enjoy a panoramic view of your surroundings or to snap a photo. Settle into your warm and comfortable interior surroundings to enjoy the scenery and wildlife sightings through the oversized windows. In addition to Steller sea lions, Dall's porpoises, bald eagles and a variety of sea birds, your naturalist will make sure to scan the shore and point out any bear or blacktail deer sightings and to describe many other aspects of the area's intriguing flora and fauna.

You'll probably be feeling hungry by now on this Juneau shore excursion. It's time for an all-you-can-eat Alaskan feast. Featured on Bravo Television's Top Chef, Gold Creek Salmon Bake is a delicious event grilled to perfection for over 38 years. Savor the aroma of wild Alaskan salmon grilling over a fragrant alder wood fire--the event's signature entree. The delectable food spread has options for everyone; choose from a variety of Alaskan entrees, sides, and blueberry cake for dessert.

Relax in the event's serene rainforest environment, listening to live Alaskan folk music. Take a short walk along a natural salmon-spawning creek to the entrance of Wagner Mine at the breathtaking Salmon Creek Falls, where you can pan for gold, see mining relics, and look for salmon. Roast marshmallows over a campfire and take photos at an interactive gold rush mural. You can return to the pier at your leisure. Shuttle services depart every 15-30 minutes.

Book this Juneau cruise excursion today for an incredible day on the waters paired with awesome local culture and flavors. This is an Alaska cruise tour you don't want to miss!

Great Day
September 07, 2022
It's a short bus ride from the pier to the meeting location. We found the organizer very quickly. We boarded a bus with only one other couple to head out to the bay. After a short intro, we set out. There were about 30 people total. We found a spot others had seen whales. We weren't disappointed. Several sightings. We then went to another location and saw several more whales. After returning, we met our van again and figured out that the 4 people in the van had the Salmon Bake also. The Salmon Bake restaurant was a whole lot of fun as it is outdoors, and it was raining. Don't read that as a problem. The seating area is covered as well as the buffet table. The food was very good, and the salmon was excellent. A very fun, unique meal. This was a very good day, and I would highly recommend it.

We have been on several whale watching trips. This one was the best by far. The captain and the crew were very informative and enthusiastic as we saw many whales. Top notch!

Cloudy and rainy

I enjoyed this excursion the most. It was cold but my husband and I were prepared. The guide and boat driver were very knowledgeable. We have a few sightings of whales and sea lions but we were pleased! The bake was very pretty and food was good. I wasn't aware of a mama bear with her 3 cubs right behind the fire pit until I heard men chasing them away but I was able to take a video.

Great opportunity to see wildlife!

My 6-year-old son and I had a wonderful time on the boat tour. We saw humpbacks, orcas (apparently a fairly unusual treat), sea lions, and porpoises. My 10-year-old daughter was scared during the first half of the boat ride, as it is a propulsion jet boat and goes quite fast. She did finally calm down once we saw the sea lions and porpoises. The captain and naturalist were very friendly and informative. The meeting place was a bit hectic, as tons of tour groups were all meeting at the same time and place, and it is difficult to tell which group you are supposed to be with. I had to ask around to find my group. Our van driver was very friendly. The salmon bake was delicious and the camp was beautiful. There are marshmallows and campfires available for after dinner. There is a free shuttle that will take you from the salmon bake back to either your ship or downtown. We had a great time, and the price was very reasonable compared to comparable excursions available through Norwegian.
