Kristiansand is located on Norway's southern coast and has long been a favorite summer holiday spot amongst Norwegians. The sea and surrounding fjords are perfect for recreational activities like fishing and sailing, or as you will discover today, kayaking.
Be greeted by your friendly, local guide at the pier and make your way to the Sogne Kayak Club.
Upon arrival at the club you will be met by your English-speaking instructors who will brief you on safety and operational instructions of the kayaks. Get settled into your gear and prepare to paddle out on the river bank to become familiar with the kayak.
After having found your comfort in the kayak (depends on previous experience) you will set off for a scenic kayak tour out on the ocean. You will pass by the historical area of Ny-Hellesund, dotted with picturesque summer houses. Ny-Hellesund is an out-port in Sogne municipality in Vest-Agder county, consisting of three main islands with good harbors and approach conditions. Ny-Hellesund can be regarded as one of the best preserved out-ports with the ongoing preservation of the cultural environment which began in 2009. The former shipyard, called the Yard (Verftet), is now converted into a restaurant and guesthouse designed by multi artist Per Fronth.
Back on land it's time to change into warm clothes before you board your transportation for the transfer return to Kristiansand.
Please Note: Tour includes wet suit, vest and all equipment necessary. There are shower facilities for guest use. Kayak trip duration depends on groups experience and may be from 1.5 to 2.5 hours long. There are two route courses depending on the weather conditions on any given day: open sea amongst skerries or in the river. The open sea will be the regularly chosen route. Minimum age to participate is 12 years old.
