Kotor Above the Clouds
Kotor Above the Clouds
Starting in Old Town Kotor, you'll take a moderate hike to the village of Spiljari. From there, ascend the mountain trail for stellar views and homemade cheese before descending to see the entrance of the San Giovanni Fortress. This Kotor tour is a great escape for travelers wanting an authentic and active Kotor shore excursion.
A professional tour guide will collect and escort you to meet the only remaining family in the abandoned village of Spiljari. Afterward, you'll follow a scenic winding trail up a mountain that, in Ottoman times, was the only connection between Montenegro and the outside world for hundreds of years.
Soon, you'll reach a terrace featuring unparalleled views of Kotor Bay from the mountaintop. Survey the farm in Spiljari before sampling their homemade goat cheese and wild pomegranate juice. Delight in the breathtaking views and see the hidden entrance of the San Giovanni fortress before descending the mountain along ancient city walls considered to be among the longest in Europe.
Book this Kotor tour to experience a rare bird's-eye view of Kotor. You may add a private guided tour of Old Town Kotor before or after your hike.

Although we could have done the hike on our own, we loved the imput from our guide and our unique route back down. The stop for refreshments was fun too. Really enjoyed ourselves despite the physical workout!

This was my favorite tour from my whole trip. If you like to hike, this is the tour for you. There were only 5 of us in this group with Gordon our guide and he was great. Fantastic views, went up a switchback trail, climbed through a window of the fort, them proceeded to climb to the very top of the old fort looking down on the old town of Kotor. Walked back down the 1400 plus steps, fantastic!

This was described as a hike up a small mountain. Sailing in, we wondered which one was the 'small' mountain but it turned out we climbed part way up a big one. Most people went up and down the stairs, but since we had a guide we took the easier route up some switchbacks, had refreshments at the top, climbed through a window into the fort for a spectacular vista, and came down the 1400 stairs. It's not for the fainthearted and we were very happy we didn't have to climb the stairs. The guide was excellent and as we were a group of 6, we could all hear all the time.

Excellent excursion. Our guide was extremely nice and willing to go at any pace we liked. The views were breathtaking and the old Fort and walls were very interesting. Be sure to bring water, sunglasses and a hat, though water was provided free of charge at the quaint stop in the old villiage.
