Lisbon by Foot and Funicular

This is the best Lisbon has to offer in a half-day experience that takes you to some of the city's best highlights and then allows you a ride on the world-famous funicular Lisbon is known for. Put on your walking shoes and set off for adventure and discovery while in Lisbon!

Your entertaining and educational, guided tour will be conducted by a knowledgeable and friendly local and is designed to take you all over this fascinating European city to experience some of the famous sights.

Beginning along the narrow streets of the Alfama, Lisbon's old Moorish Quarter, start your day and visit the Se Cathedral, the oldest church in the city, constructed in 1147. Nestled in the heart of Alfama, this medieval-looking church features Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque architecture and many intricate details such as the relics of St. Vincent, patron saint of Lisbon.

Return back to the banks of the River Tagus and stroll around Commerce Square that features fine 18th-century neoclassical buildings, and a magnificent bronze statue of a man on a horse.

Take a stroll along the Rua Augusta, a charming pedestrianized street, to Rossio Square in the Baixa, Lisbon's central shopping district. Here is where you will find the world-famous funicular, 'Elevador da Gloria', or if unavailable the Eiffel 'Santa Justa Lift'. Ride from Restauradores Square to the old neighborhood of Bairro Alto, once the residence of the city's wealthy merchants. The many lifts and funiculars you see around Lisbon were built to ease the steep climb up the city's seven hills, and today they serve as a wonderful way to soak up the sights.

Continue your tour as you walk around the reconstructed Chiado Quarter, a popular and elegant shopping district, where free time will be given to browse for souvenirs.

From here you will find your return transportation waiting to drive you back to the harbor area. If you choose, you may extend your free time here, and return to your ship independently and at your own expense.

Slowly developed over centuries, Lisbon is a captivating scene. From her white-domed cathedrals, ancient ruins and Insta-worthy and postcard-perfect picturesque cobblestone alleyways, the city is enveloped in the seven cinematic hillsides that overlook the Rio Tejo.
