Old Town Highlights Walking Tour

This Estonian tour begins with an active walking tour of the Old Town in Tallinn. Over the course of three hours, your knowledgeable guide will share stories of local history and modern culture in Tallinn. After the tour, visitors will have two hours of free time to explore the city of Tallinn before boarding a free shuttle back to the ship.

Take a short bus ride to Toompea Hill (the Upper Town) to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Lower Town with its towers, steeples, and picturesque red-tiled roofs. The walking tour starts with a brief visit inside the impressive Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky, built in the style of the churches of 17th century Moscow with an interior filled with beautiful mosaics. Stroll through the narrow cobblestoned lanes to the Dome Church, also known as St. Mary's Cathedral, where a brief optional visit is offered. It is one of the oldest churches in Estonia, originally built 780 years ago.

Descend from Toompea Hill to visit the Town Hall Square and get a glimpse at the impressive Gothic Town Hall, completed in 1404. Next, walk through the romantic Catherine's Passage, which hosts many private artists' studios. On the same street is a collection of 14th and 15th century medieval tombstones located next to the old Dominican monastery. Learn about the fortifying walls and towers that surround the city that made Tallinn's defense system one of the best and most powerful in Northern Europe.

After two hours of free time in the Old Town to shop or eat, take the free shuttle back to the ship. This Tallinn sightseeing tour is perfect for those who want to learn the history and culture of Tallinn while also enjoying a little shopping and native Estonian cuisine.
