Nebbiolo grapes are native to Piedmont, named for the intense fog that settles into the hills in the fall when the grapes are harvested. Barolo is one of Italy's most famous and most important wines, and it is in the village of Langhe where this DOCG wine, a wine that has controlled and guaranteed designation of origin, is produced.
During your visit, your driver will suggest a local cellar where you can participate in a guided tour: learn, see, and taste the wine. This is a unique opportunity to find out about grape harvesting, bottling, and aging one of Italy's definitive wines.
After you have purchaed lunch, the afternoon will see a visit to La Morra, a charming medieval city with hamlets that fan out into the countryside. In Piazza Castello, there is a baroque belltower with panoramic viewpoint of the Langhe, extending to the Alps, with the country's treed hills, rows of vineyards combed into the hills, roads weaving between them.
