Private Fells Point Happy Hour

Dig into the rich and varied flavors of one of Baltimore's most diverse neighborhoods on this private tour with a local, knowledgeable and friendly guide. From the savory to the sweet, from European traditions to world-famous Maryland specialties, your tour will offer you the chance to leave with not only a full stomach, but a greater understanding of how the history of the city's food, culture and immigration has come together to create a true American success story!

Your private happy hour tour begins at Broadway Square in the waterfront neighborhood of Fells Point. Your small group is kept to no more than 12 guests at a time to offer a very personal and intimate experience. Discover the cultural and ethnic history that has given Baltimore its diverse culinary offerings. Start off by exploring the city's immigrant roots. Poles and Russians began immigrating to the area in the late 1800s, attracted to jobs in the shipping industry and they brought with them some fantastic food and hand-crafted goods. Make a stop to visit a small shop packed with history and get a chance to meet the owner.

Next, make your way to the Broadway Market, the oldest market building in Baltimore. Historically, this market was built to serve the working-class residents who worked in the shipping industry. Today, it offers a variety of food and drink options that both locals and visitors flock to. Here, taste another Eastern European import, the pierogi, while your guide tells you the tales of some of the market's more colorful characters.

From the Broadway Market, continue towards a sweeter stop at a local cafe. If you like, your guide can also recommend a beverage for you to purchase and take with you as you continue your journey. Still thirsty? Enjoy a beer as you take in the sunset on the deck, or inside the gorgeous bar of a nearby hotel.

Once you finish your brew, walk to your final destination: a historic saloon. Here you will taste one of Baltimore's lesser known (but popular with locals) snacks and have an opportunity to buy a beer at the very same location of Poe's final drink.

If you're still hungry when your tour is over (we think will be most unlikely), your guide will be happy to give you his or her recommendations for dinner or drinks in the area.
