Private Full-Day Wellington

Your private, full-day tour in Wellington will introduce you to the city whose location at the center of New Zealand won the role of the capital in 1865. Today, Parliament and the Beehive building alongside it are national icons. The South Island is wedged between steep hills and the sea where rugged mountain ranges loom beyond the harbor. The diversity of natural resources means within 10-15 minutes, you can be walking or mountain biking in native bush or kayaking around the coastline.

You will have your very own exclusive local, knowledgeable guide who will greet you in the private tours area, to the left as you disembark your ship, and show you to your comfortable transportation where your adventure awaits. Breath-taking scenic views and photo opportunities await along with the fun of experiencing first-hand some of the local and favorite attractions. This capital city, port, and major commercial center of New Zealand is in the extreme south of North Island. Residing on the shores and hills surrounding the Port Nicholson, this almost landlocked bay is ranked among the world's finest harbors. Mount Victoria rises 643 feet (196 meters) near the center of the city and Wellington is also in a fault zone and has survived several earthquakes.

Begin by driving past the Te Papa Museum of New Zealand and the downtown entertainment district before a drive up to the top of Mount Victoria to see spectacular, 360-degree sweeping panoramic views of Wellington's city and harbor. Have your cameras ready!

Continue around the rugged coastline on your way to Weta Studios on the Miramar Peninsula for your Lord of the Rings experience with a 15 minute visit to Weta Cave where you will have a chance to purchase Lord of the Rings memorabilia, a must for any Tolkein fan, plus more photo opportunities. Venture into the Weta Cave workshop experience and discover New Zealand's gateway to immersive filmmaking.

Make a stop for a delicious lunch along the way and get a true taste of New Zealand as you try some of the local delectable fare (included in your tour price).

Up next you will drive through the popular Oriental Bay beach, see where the red-carpet area was laid out for the Premiere of Lord of the Rings, then experience the largest roundabout in the Southern Hemisphere before venturing through the different parts of the inner city, through the main cafe and entertainment part of Wellington.

Next is a ride on the iconic Wellington cable car (ticket included) which first carried passengers in 1902. After you have travelled to the top in the cable car and visited the quaint museum at that end, you will have more breathtaking panoramic views of the harbor and city, a must on everyone's bucket-list. Then if you wish you may take a 15 minute stroll through the Botanical Gardens established in 1844 and residing on 64 acres. Discover this idyllic place of beauty, peace and tranquility. Your guide will meet you at the bottom of the gardens.

Continue with a drive through the lovely Lady Norwood Rose Gardens, before seeing Parliament Buildings and its grounds before concluding the tour with a visit to Old St Paul's cathedral, a beautiful 153-year-old gothic-designed church. Make a stop for a leisurely and scenic walk through the beautiful Botanical gardens. Established in 1844 and residing on 64 acres, discover this idyllic place of beauty, peace and tranquility.

You are then returned to your cruise ship and the pier area, or within the city center if you prefer (in which case you would need to catch the cruise shuttle to return to your ship) to take with you lasting fond memories of your incredible visit to Wellington.
