Private Salmon Fishing Adventure
Salmon Fishing in Ketchikan, Alaska
Definitely one for your life's highlight reel: A private half-day charter for salmon fishing in Ketchikan, the Salmon Capital of the World.
After meeting your representative on the pier, a short walk will take you to your waiting fishing boat, which holds no more than six guests. The boats used range in size from 28 to 40 feet in length and have a very basic head.
Setting out from Ketchikan, your crew will get you your fishing license and any additional stamps you may want, as you head to the nearby sheltered waters. Enjoy the hospitality of your experienced Coast Guard-licensed captain who will relish the opportunity to show you, your family, and your friends the breathtaking beauty of Ketchikan from our "local viewpoint" - on the water, pursuing the king, silver, pink, and chum salmon runs that abound in the sheltered waters of Ketchikan.
The fishing on this Ketchikan cruise tour incorporates trolling and downriggers. The line on the fishing pole is attached to a cable with a clip that allows the captains to get the bait (or lures) down to the depth of water where the fish are located. The poles stay in rod holders (guests do not hold the poles) so that any movement will take the line off the downrigger cable. The captains on the Ketchikan tour will vary the depths on all the lines to increase the probability of catching fish. When the fish hit, the line comes off automatically or needs to be pulled off the cable. At this point, the guest takes the pole out of the rod holder and starts reeling. It is sometimes difficult for guests to feel they are fishing when they are not holding a pole, however, this is the only way to fish for salmon in the ocean.
Glimpses of our local mammals and birds - whales, seals, sea otter, porpoise, sea lions - may also be on the tour's agenda; don't be surprised when a majestic bald eagle swoops down near your boat, fishing for its own catch of the day, and allowing you a stellar photo opportunity.
Fishing gear, tackle and bait are included on this tour in Ketchikan. You may choose to catch and release all day or have your catch processed and shipped home for an additional fee.
Please Note: Mandatory fishing licenses and king salmon tags must be purchased directly from your captain. All customers must bring $25 US in cash to purchase a fishing license and $15 US in cash to purchase a king salmon tag from the captain in order to participate. From April 1st to August 14th, king salmon retention is prohibited. King salmon may not be retained or possessed; any king salmon caught must be released immediately and returned to the water unharmed. From May to June, king salmon tags are required for all guests. From July to September, king salmon tags are only required for those guests who will be fishing for king salmon. All guests ages 16 and older must have a license.

Fishing trip itself was awesome. BUT very unhappy with the whole shipping of salmon home. Ended up being $468.00 dollars later and came in 2 shipments a week apart. Was told we would receive the fish Monday and got FRIDAY and only half of the fish arrived. The Other box of fish arrived week later after calling the Packaging company. They only took off 20 %.

Caught 32 salmon and shipped it home. My kids really liked it. Captain was great. He knew exactly where to go. Friendly and patient with teenagers down to 10 year old.

Charter boat skipper ""Nick"" was professional, encouraging and very friendly. Not only did we six(6) limit on Pink Salmon in two(2) hours, he took us King and Silver fishing with great results and fun!

[...] We think we are going to pass off local fish to family and friends and save the good stuff for us.
Fun with friends & they arranged for our catch to be shipped home when we were ready to recieve it. Very well run!
