Once a bustling city in the southeast of Italy, Pompeii was buried in 4-6 meters (13 to 19 feet) of volcanic ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. The eruption remains one of the deadliest and most destructive in European history.

Today, you can tour the perfectly preserved ruins of the city, which is one of the country's most prominent archeological sites. Your driver and guide will expertly navigate around the ruins and enlighten you on the rich history of the city and region.

Once you leave Pompeii, you'll make a stop at a cameo jewelry factory, where you can see just how these intricate pieces are designed. Cameo jewelry pieces are typically a carved, raised relief of a face or mythical image on hell, coral, stone, lava, or glass set in silver or gold.

Finally, you'll make your way up the slopes of the now-dormant Mt. Vesuvius. There, you'll be welcomed at a traditional Italina winery to learn about the processes behind the regional favorites. Enjoy a sampling of the winery's wares and a delicious Italian lunch with dishes full of local flair.
