Puerto Plata Highlights and Golden Beach Escape
You will be met directly at the cruise center with a refreshing bottle of water then whisked away in air-conditioned comfort to paradise.
At the feet of the beautiful Isabel de Torres Mountain and the majestic Atlantic Ocean, Puerto Plata city is located on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, full of considerable contrasts of mountains, beaches and exuberant landscapes, but also with great historical and entertainment values. As you drive through the bustling city of Puerto Plata, your excursion host will provide you with interesting information regarding the history and culture of Puerto Plata and the Dominican Republic. There will be brief photo stops along the way to Playa Dorada (Golden Beach). Make a stop at Fort San Felipe for photos, then continue to Malecon Beach where you can see the statue of Neptune positioned on a small island. Make your way next to Parque Independencia for a brief history of the Victorian era architecture and for photos.
Only a short ride from Amber Cove is the region's most popular beach. Born as the first tourist destination in the country, Playa Dorada is located on the north coast of the country, surrounded by many interesting and diverse attractions. The coastline is one of the most beautiful in the entire Atlantic Coast, meeting all environmental requirements necessary to merit the recognition of quality, both locally and internationally.
Once at the beach you will be greeted with a complimentary seasonal, specialty beverage and warm hospitality. Secluded and romantic, Playa Dorada promises an unforgettable day of swimming or relaxing on the golden sandy beaches along the "Blue Riviera." Beach loungers will be reserved for your convenience while beach beds are on a first come, first serve basis. Additional beverages or a bite to eat are available at the beach bar and restaurant (at an additional charge).
After this relaxing time away at the beach you will return to the cruise center in comfort.
After the long walk to get to the bus (see below), we were given a seat in the comfortable air conditioned bus and given a bottle of water. The tour through town delivered what was advertised. But the half day on the bus was unnecessary. The star of this tour is Golden Beach and we would have stayed there all day!! Laying on a padded bed with white privacy curtains, bar and food service, only steps over the golden beach to cool ourselves in the beautiful Caribbean is any celebrity's opinion of indulgent. Carnival/Holland America cruise lines that lease this docking area will not allow non affiliated excursion companies access. Ship passengers who don't take the cruise lines' excursions have to walk to the entrance/exit gate (it's about a mile). Be on the lookout for the rickshaws that normally go from the ship to the duty free area. They will take you to the cab stand for only a couple of dollars extra.
The local guides were fantastic though the trip. It covers 3 different places and quite repressive of the highlights of Puerto Plata
We had a really nice excursion. The meeting point was easy to find. Our guide, Rosie, did an excellent job, talking about the history, culture and the main sights of the city. After a short city-tour of Puerto Plata with photo-stops, we were taken to the beach, where we had a relaxing time, it's a pity that we had only a halfday in Amber Cove. Hope to return in the future!

Our tour and beach visit was amazing. Our tour guide Henry was the best. He should be the model for what a tour guide should be.
