Rialto Market and Hidden Venice
Explore Venice by foot as you stroll through the city's most fascinating areas, from the former red light district to some of the oldest houses in Venice. On this half-day walking tour of Venice, you'll discover Venice's ancient past and enjoy its present wonders.
Visit one of the most beautiful little Campi (squares) facing the Grand Canal, where in olden times there would have been many oar workshops for the gondolas. Venture through to the Cannareggio district to see one of the oldest churches in Venice that dates from 7th Century and was restored in Renaissance times. Relax on a gondola, which crosses the grand canal to reach the other side of Venice, where Rialto and San Polo await you.
A tour of wonder and discovery awaits you. Let the Rialto market put a spell on you as you walk through, marvelling at its vibrant colors and smells. Learn about the history of Venice as one of the most rich and flourishing markets of the western world. Get a true taste of Italy by sampling a couple Cicchetti (Venetian tapas) with a glass of wine while seated in a traditional osteria, an Italian restaurant serving local cuisine.
Next you'll embark on a walking tour through some of the most hidden, secretive areas of San Polo. This is where (at the time of La Serenissima, during renaissance times) east and west met and where spices, precious fabrics, silk and many other goods were traded by merchants from around the globe. This Venice tour will take you to special spots in the city of canals and cobblestone streets that most visitors do not get the opportunity to see.
Your English-speaking and knowledgeable guide will take you through the city's streets and passageways, old bars that merchants once frequented, and the old red light district, where the courtesans once lived. It isn't hard to be transported back in time to the hey days of this city built upon the water. Your tour will show you the most famous parts of Venice, but it will also show you what daily life in Venice was like hundreds of years ago. In contrast, you'll also see what present day life is like, as you witness the citizens of Venice working and living in this ancient but modern city. You'll visit another one of Venice's gorgeous Campi: San Polo. Like a grand arena (where there used to be bull fights!), with its elegant palaces, it is a complete contrast to the narrow streets, dark passageways, delicate bridges and tiny courtyards of the hidden Venice.
You'll definitely enjoy your small, guided Venice tour, as it will open your eyes to a completely new culture. Immerse yourself in all that Venice has to offer on this half day guided walking tour.
Please Note: This tour departs from and returns to the Rialto Bridge area. Depending on your ship's docking location, a vaporetto, water shuttle, or walk may be required. Transportation between your ship and the Rialto Bridge is not included in the tour price.

We really enjoyed getting away from the busy areas of Venice, down some narrow streets and canals where the locals live. Our guide, Cristina, was fabulous.
