Swim and Snorkel with Turtles
Swim and Snorkel with Turtles
Make your way to Akumal, a small town between Playa del Carmen and Tulum on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico in the heart of the Riviera Maya. Discover one of the best places to visit in the Mexican Caribbean for its great variety of beautiful beaches and take this opportunity to snorkel and swim with sea turtles.
Once in Akumal this great adventure awaits, you simply have to wade into the water directly from the beach. The ocean floor at Akumal is covered with sea grass, one of the turtles' favorite foods. They'll linger for hours in the bay, casually munching on the grass, and giving you a chance to get up close and personal. This is their natural habitat and with a maximum depth of only 8 feet you can swim and snorkel alongside the turtles with ease. You can also witness other marine life such as tropical fish and stingrays while you view beautiful reefs. The water in the bay is calm, and with the warm and clear water it's a great spot for small children to play.
Remember, the turtles are wild animals and you are in their natural environment. Getting too close, touching them or trying to feed them is not allowed. While these turtles are used to people, loud noises when you are next to them while they graze or getting too close can disturb their feeding patterns and cause them stress.
After this unforgettable experience, you will have enough free time to relax on the white sand of Akumal's amazing beach or to take a swim. Be aware of your tour operator instructions and meet him at the previously established meeting time in order to return to your transportation.
Enjoy a delicious light snack while driving back to Playa del Carmen, where you will catch the ferry in perfect time to be back to Cozumel and your ship.
