Swimming Pigs & Exclusive Island

After debarking your ship, make your way into downtown Nassau to a designated location and meet the friendly staff from the private island of Balmoral who will greet you and assist with the ferry ride to the island.

Enjoy a scenic ride through the picturesque harbor of Nassau as your ferry takes you on a short ride to your private island. Once you arrive you will soon discover this peaceful place where your day of adventure awaits. The turquoise waters will take your breath away as you walk along the powdery, white sand beach where you will soon discover the friendly pigs that call this place home.

Take some time with these animals in the water, feed them, give them a scratch on the head and give them a treat. Your time with the pigs will make for some amazing pictures you can take home to remember this very special day. You will have a 30 minute encounter with the pigs.

The professional staff on the island will direct you toward the beach with rows of inviting lounge chairs, dotted with umbrellas for shade. There is something to do for everyone, take a relaxing swim, play beach games, or simply relax in a lounger. Browse the boutique on site for some souvenir shopping and of course enjoy a delicious cocktail or tempt your taste buds at The Market for a snack where you will also find a kid's menu (food and drink available for purchase).

You can also rent paddle boards or snorkel gear to discover the underwater world that lies just beneath the surface of the crystal-clear waters. Explore the two swimming pools and even rent a private cabana if you like (rented on a first come first serve basis).

The island has many themed bars, plus a Starbucks for all the coffee enthusiasts. Kids also have their own private area for fun where they can build a sandcastle or play beach games.

Make this a day to remember when in Nassau and spend some quality time swimming with the Balmoral Island pigs!

So fun!

This excursion was so fun! Well organized and easy to find. A little info: wear water shoes because the sand where you swim with the pigs is very rocky and rough. Also, these pigs are not wild, they are trained. For us, this was ideal. They are ADORABLE. And the trainers are excellent. This was better than the stories we have heard of the wild pigs biting at you and pooping everywhere. Plus, the private island/beach is gorgeous!

Swimming with pigs

The good-the trainers were very knowledgeable and friendly. The pigs were playful and fun to watch and interact with. The bad-the whole program seemed to be set up to get pictures taken so they could price gauge you at the end. No cell phones allowed so no personal pictures. The price of the pictures was $117 or nothing. You could not buy one or two pictures for $25-$30 dollars. As a side note, be sure to eat alot before you go to the island. Cost for 4 to eat basically cafeteria food would be about $100. A hot dog and fries costs $18.99 which I believe was the lowest item on the menu. Bottle of pop was $6.00 and bottle of water I believe was $4.00.

Swimming with the pigs was interesting! Something different. It definitely gave us a good laugh! One of our party is handicapped and LOVES farm animals, so this was for her. The workers accommodated her so well and were so incredibly kind. The doc in Nassau was not an easy thing to scale for entrance onto the boat.

Hog wild!

We enjoyed our time with the pigs. The staff was knowledgable and thorough - providing an educational session on the pigs, how they arrived on the island, their habitat, their diet, intelligence level etc. They are very large animals, but don't be put off by this. They are so sweet and love being near people, getting their ear and backs scratched. They listen to their handlers, and have some tricks. The beach is a little rocky, so we recommend that you wear water shoes to avoid potential injury. There was ample time with the pigs and lots of photo opportunities. Don't be put off by the high price tag of the photos. Paying with a credit card, converts the price to Bahamian dollars, whereas if you pay in cash, you'll be charged in US dollars and at par. So buy the pictures with your card! We loved our time with the pigs! Laughed a lot and would do this excursion again.
