Tulum and Sea Turtle Snorkel
When visiting Cozumel, you can do it all on this excursion, discover ancient Mayan ruins and snorkel with Sea Turtles in a natural sanctuary bay.
Your journey begins with a scenic ferry ride from Cozumel to Playa Del Carmen. Travel by van along the Mayan Riviera to Tulum, the site of a pre-Columbian Mayan walled city. Take a 5-minute shuttle ride directly to the entrance of this ancient city, and go on a 45-minute long guided tour to discover it's top 3 landmarks; El Castillo, Temple of Frescos, and the Temple of the Descending God surrounded by world famous white sandy beaches. The ruins are situated on 39-foot-tall cliffs along the beautiful Caribbean and were one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya. Tulum flourished between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive 70 years after the Spanish began to occupy Mexico.
From here you will travel to Akumal Bay, a natural sanctuary for Loggerhead Sea Turtles. Gear up, and follow your guide on an approximately 45-minute long, slow swim to take a rare opportunity to encounter these friendly creatures up close in waters no deeper than 12-feet. Akumal is located south of Playa Del Carmen and its pristine, tranquil waters are protected by a barrier reef where the Loggerhead Sea Turtles enter daily to feed on sea grass and are very peaceful and friendly. See the abundant marine life which you can encounter at the Bay, from Manta Rays to large schools of exotic fish.
After a day rich with exciting experiences you will travel back to Playa Del Carmen for lunch on the beach at Senor Frogs. Souvenir shopping is optional after lunch if time permits.
Please Note: Due to environmental concerns, the snorkeling portion of this tour in Akumal Bay has been temporarily suspended until June 2017.

Overall a good trip. Amount of time in Tulum was fine and our guide there was very knowlegable. Would have enjoyed staying longer for the Sea Turtle snorkel adventure. Our Escort for the entire tour did a great job as our Guide during the Sea Turtle snorkel, but was not experienced in getting us on the proper ferry to return to the cruise ship docked in Cozumel. Had we not been on top of it, we would have missed our ships departure.
