Glacier Turnagain Arm Tour
Glacier Turnagain Arm Tour
Setting out from your hotel in Anchorage, you will travel an All American Road with highlights along the way! This is a spectacular Turnagain Arm tour where the best scenery in Alaska resides. Overall, this tour provides the most activities in one full day round trip from Anchorage.
After a mid day pickup in Anchorage, we will head south hugging the shores of Turnagain Arm heading to Mt. Alyeska, approximately 40 minutes south of Anchorage. Upon arrival, you will take the tram 2,280 feet up Mt Alyeska to the top where you will find Alaska's only mountain top museum. From the viewing decks at the Roundhouse Museum, we can see several glaciers as well as the Turnagain Arm and the territory we covered.
Descend the tram and enjoy lunch at our favorite eatery at the base of the Chugach Mountains. Bottomless soup of the day, sourdough bread, one of their famous desserts and a beverage are included.
After an Alaskan sized lunch, continue on to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescue and rehabilitation for injured and orphaned animals from all over Alaska. Animals that cannot be released back into the wild are given a permanent home at the center. There we visit with orphaned grizzly bears, injured eagles, families of elk and bison, and many more Alaskan wild animals.
Then we are off to get up close and personal with Portage Glacier on the 1-hour cruise through Portage Lake. An on-board expert will share facts and stories about the land, the local flora and fauna, and glaciers of the Portage Valley. You will learn some things while watching and listening to this amazing glacier! Your captain, weather and ice conditions permitting, will lead you up to within 300 yards of the Portage Glacier face as you take pictures from the boat.
After your glacier cruise, you will begin the drive back to Anchorage, where drop offs will be made at several hotels.
