Turtle Sanctuary Experience

After meeting your local, friendly and passionate guide at the pier area, take an approximately 40-minute ride from Mazatlan to the nature protected area and RAMSAR site. You will arrive to the community of El Recreo where they have joined efforts with CONANP (National Commission of Natural Protected Areas) in protecting the olive ridley sea turtle. Pay a visit to the turtle sanctuary and see the incubation room and incubation corral. You will be given a briefing on turtle preservation and gain knowledge pertaining to these sea creatures. Meet the faces behind this program and connect with the people as they share with you some of the preservation techniques they use.

Take a quick break to refresh with some seasonal fresh fruit and then it's time to set off on your adventure by kayak. For approximately 1-hour, you will go kayaking through the area's mangrove wetland. Glide your kayak between lush vegetation tunnels and immerse yourself in the quiet and solitude of this special place as you keep your eye out for local wildlife.

After your kayak adventure it's time for the very special part of the day as you participate in a turtle release. It's now your turn to help Mother Nature and these tiny new hatchlings as you guide them on their first journey to make it to their new home in the water! A digital turtle release certificate is also yours to take home as a keep sake and souvenir of this most extraordinary day you will have.

After this excitement it will time for a traditional and delicious brunch that is provided from the community orchard. Share in the thrill of what you have just accomplished with your fellow participants as you taste the delectable food that has been presented to you, directly from farm to table. You can even take a walk around the community orchard and get a first-hand look at how the food is grown and harvested.

Please Note: This activity is not suitable for pregnant women and all guests must be able to walk on the sand. You will have beach time and it will be up to you if you want to go for a swim.
