Waikiki and Diamond Head by Hoverboard
Waikiki and Diamond Head by Hoverboard
Your exciting hoverboarding adventure begins in front of the Honolulu Zoo where you will meet up with your local, knowledgeable guide for safety instructions and some practice. The Segway-style, self-balancing electric hoverboards are fun and easy to learn and maneuver, and you will be outfitted with a wireless one-ear audio receiver to learn about Hawaii's nature, history, and listen to nostalgic Hawaiian music as you hover from place to place with your guide.
Make your way to the heart of Kapiolani Park, formerly a racetrack created in the 1800s by King Kalakaua. You will be introduced to the island's famous trees including the Monkeypod, Banyan, Ironwood and Plumeria.
At Waikiki Beach you will learn about the ancient and modern methods of surfing in the area known as the birthplace of surfing. Stop at a little known prior human sacrificial temple location and learn about Hawaii's ancient gods, kings, and queens, the island's volcanic birth, and how the fire Goddess Pele created it all.
Along the way to the Waikiki War Memorial and Natatorium you will pause at a popular snorkeling and scuba location and look for fish as your guide shares photos of native marine life like green sea turtles, Hawaiian monk seals, and sharks. Hit San Souci, the beach popular with the locals, and take in the charming historic cottages and multi-million-dollar mansions along the Gold Coast.
Next, you will hover up Diamond Head and be rewarded with stunning panoramic ocean vistas, neighboring islands, and a bit of war history through the presence of hidden military bunkers. If you are lucky, you might be able to spot whales in the distance!
As you make your way back to the tour start you will have a chance to sample local snacks, ride through a century-old Indian Banyan, and glide along the Ala Wai Canal with its delightful views of Koolau Mountains and practicing outrigger canoe teams. You will also pass by the famous Duke Kahanamoku statue all while listening to beautiful examples of uniquely Hawaiian instruments, tiki pop era comedy, even a song composed in 1874 by the very last Hawaiian Monarch.
