Visit the colonial villages of Malpica, Concordia and Copala located at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains. While in Malpica, you'll see natives making pottery, furniture, and colorful floor tiles by hand and you'll get to sample a delicious piece of bread made in a rustic kiln. Concordia also offers a great opportunity to see how local artisans hand craft beautiful furniture, pottery and roof tiles.
The highlight of the Colonial Tour is Copala, an ancient gold mining town founded in 1565 with a rich history. Stroll down its cobblestone streets and get to know some of Copala's 600 friendly residents. Copala is a colorful town filled with bougainvillea and roofs with traditional red tiles.
The tour also includes the visit to the San Sebastian temple and San Jose church. The San Sebastian temple was built in 1608 with beautiful traditional arches. The original San Jose church dates back to the 1700s, although the building you'll visit was constructed in 1932 in the traditional location of the local mission.
All of this touring will of course make you hungry, so you'll stop for lunch at Daniel's restaurant, where you can taste the famous Banana Coconut Cream Pie.
