Experience the best of Kauai with a spectacular combination excursion featuring a cruise on the Wailua River followed by one of Hawaii’s most celebrated Luau experiences.
The Waliua River is a long, slowly meandering river that starts at the Wai’ale’ale Crater and is fed by many tributaries on the way to the ocean. It is the only navigable river in Hawai. For a unique Hawaiian adventure try our cruise up the river to the sacred Fern Grotto, a lava rock grotto covered with tropical ferns. Hawaiian Musicians will serenade you at the grotto with traditional, local songs including the famous “Hawaiian Wedding Song”. The acoustics within this natural amphitheater are superior and greatly enhance the music.
The cruise up the river usually takes approximately 40 minutes on a long, flat bottom riverboat. You will also encounter kayakers, motorboats and water skiers along the way. During the cruise there are many photo opportunities of tropical grasslands lining the river and the majestic cloud-covered Mt. Waialeale in the background. You will also enjoy the overlook at Opaekaa Falls-- another romantic stop that will surely secure your love of this Garden Island. Following your day tour, you will be transported to a magical location for a memorable Luau experience.
For four generations, the Smith Family Luau has treated guests to one of the most celebrated Luau’s on the island of Kauai. Situated in the Wailua River Valley, family’s tropical gardens set the stage for a night to remember.
The Luau honors the traditions of the Polynesian culture with the main feature being the Pa’ina, or feast. A Kula pig is roasted in the Imu and served with a wide variety of local delicacies and desserts. Following the feast, guests are treated to customary songs and chants known as “mele”, the lyrical sway of the Hawaiian Hula, the colorful precision of the Tahitian drum dances and the fiery emotion of the Samoan fire knife dance.
The Smith family is proud to continue to honor the tradition of the Luau started more than 50 years ago by their Grandfather. Join them as they share the “spirit of aloha".
