Unforgettable Excursion

I don't usually like this kind of excursion but this was the exception. The views, and the incredible fresh air made this worthwhile. The train ride was fun and educational. I would definitely recommend this trip.

I had this tour in Sept. with Mike on a nice 20 passenger mini bus. We stopped at spots the big buses couldn't and saw some fantastic views.Mike was a great guide who told us some fantastic facts about the whole area. Lunch was very good. The train ride back down is not to be missed. If you are lucky, the train will stop to pick-up hikers on one of the platforms along the way. We picked up a group of girls that spent the night at a cabin you can rent up in the mountains.I learned that this girls all come to Alaska during summer to work in town and anyone can do the same.

The driver of our bus and train were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable It made the tour so enjoyable and informative. We were able to see an abundance of wildlife and beautiful landscapes. This tour was one I will always remember!

Rose was our driver. She was very inform and just fun to be with. The train was comfortable enough. We saw beautiful scenery.

My husband and I had the most wonderful day with our tour guy James… It was an unforgettable day of watching the unparalleled beauty a Skagway driving up into the Yukon. He was a masterful historian, and storyteller- We would do this tour over and over again. HE ESPECIALLY If James was our tour guide, the bus was very comfortable and a nice size group, and train ride on the white pass railroad was unforgettable… huge windows for the best views of one of the most beautiful places on earth. This tour was well worth every penny, and probably more don’t even hesitate to purchase… We chose the specific one because I really wanted to see Emerald Lake and trust me when I say that it’s worth the time to get there. Absolutely stunning. When our train arrived back in Skagway, it was wonderful that James was there along with other bus drivers to pick all of us up to take us back to our ship. Very professional…. Leaving us with nothing to worry about.

We knew this was going to be a highlight of our trip and we were not wrong! The train ride was very cool with amazing views of the mountains and passes. The bus portion gave us a chance to get out and experience the Yukon! So many beautiful over looks! Emerald Lake, a stop at Carcross and another cool little town. At Carcross we saw and interacted with sled dogs and Puppies that were up for adoption. A taxidermy museum and a nice BBQ lunch. Our guide was excellent! I would highly recommend this excursion.

We had the best day on this excursion in Alaska. Our tour guide Ann gave us history and story telling the entire day. The train tour was a great start, then getting shuttled all over with picture moments along the way is something my husband and I will never forget. This is an easy way to get a peek into the Yukon and hear the history behind the people who founded it. This is a must do and would do all over again while in Skagway!

Took a 90 min train to the Yukon where our guide picked up our group. He was great, knowledgeable and personable. The tour vehicle was small, about 20 people or so, so the time it took to hop on and off was short. Stopped at waterfalls, beautiful lakes, main points of interest. Lunch was good and the puppies adorable .although they were not the huskies. Our guide dropped those of us off in town and took others straight back to thr boat. Would highly recommend

We had a beautiful day. We road by bus to caribou crossing. Absolutely stunning scenery along the way. Our tour guide was great. We were blessed to have a brown bear cross the road right in front of us. The lakes are pristine. The caribou crossing had a BBQ chicken dinner which was good. They had a royal mounted police museum by which we would have spent more time. The animal museum had some of the best taxidermy we've ever seen. We rushed to make sure we saw the iditorid dogs and puppies. The train trip was a cool old time car and we loved the history and have to admire what hardy hardworking people came to settle the area . It was a lovely day .

The bus wasn’t the big bus I thought it would be which made the trip great. Our tour guide was able to stop at small pullovers that the big bus couldn’t. With her guidance and insight we were able to get pictures of amazing scenery and had a more relaxed atmosphere. Train was ok but would skip this next time.

This was a super fun trip, and our guide (Brittan) made it the best because he spent the whole trip (after he picked us up from the train) educating us by telling us stories. He timed it so we beat the cruise ship's busses every stop so we never had to wait in lines for the bathroom, etc. The stories were incredibly interesting and kept out attention - even for our teenager! I highly recommend this tour.

This was a great tour, starting in the morning and going until about 5:00 pm. There were only 2 of us who attended, but the tour was not cancelled. The driver filled us in with history and some of his own experiences. I would highly recommend this tour and the Chilkoot(?) Tour Company.

Wow, what can I say. The excursion was very nice, along with the bus and BBQ.

After hearing about the steep train ride through the mountains to Fraser, BC; I had some trepidation as to how much I would enjoy this excursion. I was never so happy to be wrong!! My husband and I found it to be a highlight of our Alaskan cruise vacation, as we enjoyed the amazing panoramic views as we climbed ever higher into the mountains. Once in the Yukon territory, we were surprised to find a desert oasis in the mountains. Another surprise awaited our bus, as we saw a brown bear just wandering on the side of the road. The time at Caracross Junction was delightful giving one the sense of being back in the time of the Gold Rush, as we had lunch in a covered wagon. Truly, memories enough for a lifetime!

On our excursion, we took the White Pass and Yukon train trip deep into the Yukon territory. What a scenic ride through the pass and into Canada, where without a passport, you turn around and go back down the hill!. Our smaller bus had a wonderful driver who took us to out of the way places the ship's excursions don't go. You stop in smaller towns and can talk to the locals. Our guide was sensitive to our desires to see as much of the beautiful mountains and lakes as possible. The whole trip was well worth it.

For our first time in Skagway, this excursion was great, A+. James, our Irish tour guide for the bus trip (the first half of the journey) absolutely made the day. His depth of knowledge and natural story telling abilities were amazing. The views along the way were beautiful, especially after passing into Canada and clear skies. The lunch stop was an unusual place, but the food was OK. We enjoyed the scenic train ride back to Skagway. We saw some of the same terrain as the trip up, but from a totally different perspective. We were thankful for the heaters and restrooms in the train cars! We can absolutely recommend this trip.

We started on a small bus to the Yukon. Our driver was very knowledgeable of the gold rush era and explained many interesting facts about the explorers. He stopped at many interesting and photogenic spots. He wouldn't hesitate to stop for pictures if you requested. The bus tour & driver were definitely 5 star! The train ride back was good. You seen a lot of scenery you saw coming up but from a different angle

The train ride up to White Pass is interesting, scenic, and informative. However, the best part is the bus trip to the Yukon and all the scenery there. The lakes are beautiful and the mountains are spectacular. Our guide, Britton, was a wealth of information with fantastic stories about the Klondike Gold Rush. Highly Recommend this Tour and Britton as a guide - you will remember this fondly for a long while.

Highly recommend! Such an epic majestic trip. Bone up on the Yukon Gold Rush prior to add context and value to your visit.

The tour guide was par excellent! The scenery was spectacular and the train was so wonderful in being a reconstituted old school passenger service! Well worth the money

This was a really fun tour full of different things through the trip. Started off on train ride up the to summit of White Pass which was stunning and full of history. After reaching the summit we got on a bus to head down the summit back to Skagway. We stopped for lunch at rustic roadside inn and petting zoo. The lunch consisted of home cooked BBQ chicken, homemade rolls and coleslaw. Rustic but, but very tasty. The trip down from the summit was breathtaking. This was the best excursion of our trip.

The entire day was great. What an experience to have ridden the train to White Pass. To stand on the back and just listen to the train and to see all of the sights and beauty (with narration) along the way. The bus adventure was fantastic and made even better because of the narration and stories from our tour guide. He was awesome. What a memorable day, and we would recommend this excursion as one not to be missed. Thank you.

This was our second trip on the white horse pass railroad. This time we chose the train up and take the bus back. It was a filled day on a small bus with about 16 people. The tour guide ms early was amazing she made several stops after we got off the train to take pictures of all the scenic lakes. Caribou crossing barbecue chicken lunch was good and walking around the grounds was an enjoyable break.

This excursion is simply amazing. This excursion has two distinct experiences, with a bus tour and then a train ride. In this case, we started with the bus. Our bus driver, Ethan, picked us up and delivered a fantastic first part of the day. He was able to stop at many photo spots including peaks, valleys, rivers, and lakes. We were able to cross into Canada and into the Yukon territory and visit Caribou Crossing Trading Post where we had lunch. They also had a small museum, sled dog camp, petting zoo and of course, a gift shop. We then had a short visit to Carcross before heading back. When we arrived back at the Canadian border, we boarded the White Pass railroad for the trip back down the mountain. This too, was fantastic. You'll see some amazing sights, and get some dramatic views as you make your way back to Skagway. This is one of our favorite excursions that we've ever done on any cruise or cruise line. Could not recommend highly enough!

This adventure was great! The scenery was unreal. The crew on the train were great and our guide was excellent.

The railway experience was spectacular and the bus adventure was remarkable. James Coleman MADE the trip. His stories and appreciation of the beauty and history of the land was incredible. The lunch at Carabou Crossing was great. The scenery was breath-taking and James told the best stories ever! James is the best. I can't imagine doing this excursion again without James Coleman!

This is a nice train ride and you can observe a lot of nature going thru the mountains. I found the excursion to be a little bit long. Our driver was nice . I think it is a must do.

Our bus driver was excellent and entertaining. The train ride was breathtaking but two stops to pick up hikers (first stop was over half and hour to wait for two hikers that were not at the stop) made it impossible for us to see Skagway as we needed to get back to our ship by a certain time.

We really enjoyed the train ride from Skagway. The veiws were spectacular. Then the bus ride was wonderful. The driver was informative and friendly. Our lunch was very good. We enjoyed our stops along the way and the beautiful fall colors in all their brilliance.

Great excursion. The train trip is not too long and the trip back is beautiful. Our driver had a very good grasp on the history of the Yukon and knew the best places to stop for pictures. Highly recommended.

the length and the stops on the coach trip were perfect, the driver was friendly and an expect explaining the area. The train is a must, the landscape is incredible Highly recommended

An amazing day & tour! We enjoyed perfect weather & an amazing tour guide & driver-James. He made sure we didn't miss the best sights in Alaska and the Yukon, while sharing amazing facts and stories. Our group @17 adults seemed to enjoy the train trip (from the last car) allowing us views of spectacular sights that could never be seen by car/bus. Meanwhile, James drove to the top of the mountains where we boarded his small bus, and we were treated to views of reflecting lakes, a desert, glaciers, snow-topped mountains, & even a close-up view of a baby bear. The trip included a delicious BBQ lunch & time to watch Iditarod sled dogs being exercised. We were able to pet sled dog puppies and visit the animal museum. At trip's end, James offered a town or ship drop-off. The tour sounds pricey, but is well worth the cost & is probably the best shore excursion tour I've ever booked. I highly recommend the experience. (Went in mid-Sept.-allowed us no crowds and a touch of Fall's beauty).

This excursion was by far our favorite! The weather turned out beautiful and we were able to clearly see all the sights. Our bus guide was very informative and we learned a lot of interesting history of the area and the Gold Rush. The bus ride portion was very comfortable. The lunch provided on our stop was quite good and our time spent there enjoyable. The train ride back provided a different view and new scenery. I am very glad we chose this excursion with the bus/train combo.

We cannot say enough good things about this adventure. This is the first adventure not directly booked with our cruise line. In the past, we were always concerned about returning to our ship timely. Morgan, who was in charge of our group was awesome. He was knowledgeable, timely, patiently answering everyone’s questions. The best of our four adventures.

I chose to this tour because it was broken up with a bus and a train component. I didn't want to be stuck on the other train tour for four hours, only to fall asleep. Our tour guide was friendly, informative, and funny. He made the journey very memorable. On the train ride, we were able to stand outside to view all of the mountain and water features. It was cool to be able to sit inside in comfort or stand outside with the fresh air.

This was my favourite excursion! Not only the scenery was spectacular, but the bus driver “Mike” was excellent with appropriate commendations and humour. The train allowed us to see so much more beauty and glaciers than the road. On the negative side, the college guides were NOT sophisticated enough for an otherwise awesome experience. Some maturity on their part would have increased our pleasure in listening to them.

My granddaughter and I both very much enjoyed the train trip and bus trip. We loved stopping at the small towns and settlements to visit the museum and shops and see the scenery. The historic information was very interesting and we learned a lot and had a great time. It was also nice to be back in Skagway early enough to roam around in their shops and left off towards the "back" of the town away from the jewelry stores.

Our tour guide was great. She knew tons about the area and her commentary was spot on and amusing when appropriate. She stopped often to give us plenty of "photo ops" and bathroom breaks. I was really impressed with her personality and knowledge of the history and 'colorful anecdotes. The ride back on the old timey train was fun. And the bottled water was MOST WELCOME on a hot day.

We did the bus tour first up to the Yukon. Ann was our guide and was fantastic! She provided excellent commentary throughout the trip, made sure to keep everyone safe during the road side stops, and checked in with the group frequently on comfort level of bus. We took the train from Fraser back to Skagway. Train ride was disappointing. We were on the "hill" side of the train and couldn't see much of the scenery. A family group filled the front of the train car for the entire trip so we were limited to trying to find a spot on the back of the car. Honestly the vistas were better on the bus portion of the tour.

I loved this tour. We were debating between a bus tour or a train tour and found this tour that did both. We saw so many beautiful sites on both. The bus was a mid size bus and the guide was so informative and nice. Honestly my favorite Alaska tour.

If you are looking at train trips out of Skagway, this is the tour to go on! You'll see a lot of Alaska and some remote areas of Canada. We took this day excursion as part of our cruise trip. Enjoyed the bus ride up there. Our guide Morgan taught us a lot about Alaska and the Yukon territory. A great storyteller and kept us entertained! We were amazed at how much knowledge he had about the area. He really made our trip! Everyone in our party liked the lunch.Train ride was beautiful, as well. My kids (ages 9, 13 & 15) enjoyed it. Highly recommend this tour! You will regret it, if you don't book it.

The guide put us on the train, which had written and oral descriptions of the trip. She met us at the end of the rail line and drove us up to the lower Yukon. She delivered a great commentary during the trip. Great personality. The vegetarian option for lunch could have been better. Wish we could have stayed longer in some places, but the day was packed. The best of our excursions.

Great day of learning, beautiful scenery, great experiences! Loved our guide Mike! informative and professional. Loved the intimate experience! Learned so much about the Klondike gold rush, glaciers, Carcross and Skagway. Stoped near beautiful waterfalls, lakes and cute towns. Bring a warm and wind proof jacket! Cold and windy up in the pass. Great BBQ chicken lunch with yummy homemade doughnuts for desserts. At our lunch stop we Got to do a dog mushing experience, pet the puppies, and visited an outstanding taxidermy museum with a woolly mammoth! Loved the train ride back to Skagway from Fraser Canada in the Yukon. We had the whole train car to our group, loved riding the historic train. Tip, go walk around Skagway early because most of the stores were closed by the time we came back after our 8 hour adventure. Be aware you start the day and spend more than half of the excursion on a mini bus. The train is your trip back to town. We highly recommend this experience.

The bus and rail trip was awesome. The rail trip was very informative. The train was clean and very comfortable. The rail guides were very informative. The bus portion of the excursion was awesome as well. Our guide was very knowledgeable and humorous about the area and it’s history. He was helpful in every manner possible. It was very obvious that he enjoyed his job.

Phenomenal! A must have experience in Skagway!

A young girl got sick on our tour, she needed medical attn asap. We were on our way back to Skagway and had no phone or radio reception. Jamison, our driver was great to drive quickly and keep his cool until we could contact authorities. We got a police escort and met paramedics in the canyon. The paramedics transported the girl and her parents to the clinic in Skagway. Jamison graciously offer to give them transportation back to their ship when they were finished at the clinic even if he had to do it on his own time. Not sure of the outcome but kuddos to Jamison for his compassion and professionalism!!

The rail trip was spectacular. The information was just right. The history was well told. Brian, our bus driver, was great. He loves his job and really shows it.

The bus driver was incredibly knowledgeable and funny. We saw lots of wildlife and stopped at great locations for photographs. The lunch was good. The train ride down the mountain was amazing. Hard to believe that the miners walked up that carrying a ton of supplies.

Fun trip for all ages. Second time in 5 years for us. Lots of fun. Beautiful scenery. Some scary thrills as you travel the narrow rails looking directly down a sharp cliff, going through a dark tunnel or traveling over an old wooden bridge. Knowledgeable, good- humored guides. Clean and well maintained train. Highly recommended! Watch for the elusive Sasquatch, Alligator and Armadillo.

Wow... what an adventure. It was a day well spent. The driver was very knowledgeable and shared many interesting life experiences. We even saw a real desert in the Yukon. Lunch was delicious. The landscape was beautiful. We enjoyed the train ride and saw historical, built by hand, bridges built to provide access to the gold mines.

We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this tour. The bus driver/tour guide, whose name unfortunately escapes me, was extremely knowledgeable and personable. We saw spectacular scenery in both Alaska and the Yukon. There were lots of excellent stops for photo ops, and plenty of rest stops. Lunch was fun, and we went on the dog sled ride, which was fun and informative. We have no hesitation in recommending this excursion.

The Yukon Railway and bus excursion was the highlight of our trip. We had a personable and pleasant tour guide who was very knowledgeable. His first name was Morgan. The scenery was quite incredible. We thoroughly enjoyed the excursion.

Our tour guide James was quite a storyteller (not surprising being he is from Ireland). When he picked us up at the border and he began telling us a story about his neighbor back in Arizona. We would stop and get off the bus. He picked the story up right where he left off. I didn't care too much for the BBQ.

This tour is a must! So educational and just a great time. We spent the whole day off the boat and did this tour and it was so worth it!

We had the best guild. From getting our own train coach to making sure we get enough picture. And knowing about the history just made our vacation amazing. We would do it again. Worth it!

Started with large van from dock area. Total of 12 on the tour. Our driver Morgan was fun, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. The small group allowed for easy on/off at awesome photo spots. We went up into the Yukon on the van. Nice BBQ lunch in Carcross, Yukon. Van back to train, took train back to Skagway. Train fun, low clouds blocked views until near the end. Glad we had the van ride - got above the clouds on the way into the Yukon for beautiful views. Long day but worth it for all you get to see.
