Merida City & Shopping Tour

Our tour guide was excellent. He was very informative with so much knowledge. We learned about the city and it's history. We toured the 5th oldest house in the city. We learned about how the Cathedral was partially built with stones from Mayan ruins. We had a great lunch at Casa Maya. It was 102 degrees that day, but the bus ride was very comfortable!

My friend and I took this tour on 11/13/19 with Areli. We took the free bus from the pier into town and we’re directed to the tour office. We waited for the other 4 people on our tour then we were off. Our tour guide, Areli Montoya, was fantastic! She told us all about the history of the area and the Colonial settlers. I had no idea this area had so much European influence and had been so wealthy. The mansions were beautiful. We toured the first governors mansion, a cathedral and spent some time in a local handmade market before lunch at a local restaurant, La Parrilla, where they took great care of us. I can’t recommend this tour enough! We left the restaurant and spend some time in the rkbfor pictures then were returned to the pier in plenty of time to shop for souvenirs before boarding. If you are looking for some cultural experience, book this tour with Areli. I will easily recommend this tour to all my clients!

We didn't complete this tour in the normal fashion, but . . . As we re-boarded the tour van after our first stop, my wife stepped off the curb and into a hole causing her to fall. This resulted in a scrapped knee and sprained ankle. The tour guide (unfortunately I don't remember her name) was wonderful. She enlisted the aid of a nearby police officer and we were escorted to the police station where paramedics attended to my wife's injuries. We were offered the option to have the van return us to the ship, but declined so others could complete their tour while we waited in the van and enjoyed the lovely architecture of center city Merida. Upon return to the ship, our guide arranged a wheel chair and escorted my wife and myself back to the ship where she was also checked by the ship's medical personnel. The service from our tour guide was absolutely outstanding and we will be returning to Merida (already booked the cruise) and hopefully we will be able to successfully complete the tour.

The guide for this tour Areli was exceptional. She has a great knowledge both of the city and it's history. She was willing to answer any question and her english is very good. She was willing to make special requests and even stopped at a Mcdonalds for a restroom stop for some of the elderly on our tour. The office for the tour company was a bit run down but the office staff was very friendly and tried to make everyone feel comfortable. The tour part was excellent. The shopping not so much. We were taken to a small group of shops(arranged by the tour operators) very touristy and way overpriced we were also taken to lunch(place also arranged by the tour operator) which was also expensive and not really authentic. I would have rather visited the central market in Merida and looked about the stalls and ate. Overall the experience was good except for Areli and she was exceptional.

This was our second stop on our Cruise. Areli, was a great tour guide. Very informative, and patient. Even though I use a cane she didn't rush us through anything, we saw and learned alot about the Mayan tradition and customs. There was a good restaurant that we ate a good lunch at, and shopping was great also. I could have stayed all day. A great tour and I recommend it to anyone.

Nice tour, shopping limited but complete

My wife and I had a great time in the unique city of Merida Mexico. Our Tour Guides where absolutely fantastic and very friendly and cannot forget the driver that day also,he got us from point A to point B in abundant time!
