Departing from the Maritime Station cruise pier in groups of never more than 30 people, you will meet your guide and your driver, who take you on an approximately 45 minute drive along the road that follows the Bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius and the ancient City of Pompeii, which lies in its shadow. Ironically, one of the ancient world's worst disasters preserved time in Pompeii, where you will experience life as it was lived in 79 AD. Once a thriving empire, it was devastated by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD when 30 feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone covered the city.
Upon arrival in Pompeii, you will enter by one of its ancient gates, and a short walk will take you to the city's hub, the Forum. Surrounded by lavish temples and porticoes, you'll begin to grasp the lifestyle of the inhabitants. Admire the mansions and the art of wealthy patricians who moved to Pompeii to escape the turmoil of Rome; view countless paintings and inscriptions. See the streets with raised pavements on both sides and the stepping-stones that ensured pedestrians a safe crossing at intersections. Your guided visit to Pompeii is approximately two hours.
After your visit to Pompeii, sit back and enjoy an approximately 90 minute to 2 hour scenic driving tour along the Bay of Naples, and then over the mountain to the Amalfi Coast. You'll drive to the picturesque seaside resort of Amalfi, which lies at the mouth of a deep gorge. It is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Italy. As a sea power, Amalfi played an important role in the Middle Ages. It was part of the four Maritime Republics that included Venice, Genoa and Pisa. You will spend a total of about 2 hours in Amalfi, including approximately 90 minutes of free time on your own to purchase lunch, shop, take photos, purchase an optional cruise along the coast, or stroll along the narrow streets to the Piazza del Duomo. From this square, a flight of 60 or more steps leads to the impressive Cathedral of St. Andrew. The interior of the church dates as far back as the 13th century with the highlight of the cathedral being the 11th century bronze doors from Constantinople.
At the appointed time, you will return for the 90 minute to 2 hour drive back to Naples.
Please Note: Crowds are to be expected at all sites and lines for certain attractions may exceed over one hour to enter due to the Jubilee Holy year celebration. The scenic driving portion and free time in Amalfi are not guided or narrated. The entrance fee to Pompeii is included, and your tour of the ruins is guided. This Naples cruise tour does not include Sorrento.

We loved the tour. The guide Mario was very informative and funny. Interesting tour of Pompeii. The ride to the Almalfi Coast was beautiful sit on the right side to take in the full view. If you are afraid of heights you should sit on the left side. Mario recommended us to take the boat to see the views and it was well worth it!

Our guide, Andrea, was the best guide we had! He even learned our names! The trip to Amalfi was fabulous but the information for the trip needs to note that it's a difficult one for those who get carsick. Pompei was enhanced by our guide's extensive knowledge and entertaining way of imparting information. I would have been happy if he'd been our guide everywhere!

We enjoyed this tour the most of all our tours on our vacation. The tour guide made it very interesting with all knowledge and history that he shared. The big surprise was the opportunity that the tour guide set up for a 45 minute boat ride along the coast, what a surprise. The awesome views were spectacular!
