Exclusive Amalfi Coast Drive from Pompeii Day Tour
Departing from the Maritime Station cruise pier in groups of never more than 30 people, you will meet your guide and your driver, who take you on an approximately 45 minute drive along the road that follows the Bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius and the ancient City of Pompeii, which lies in its shadow. Ironically, one of the ancient world's worst disasters preserved time in Pompeii, where you will experience life as it was lived in 79 AD. Once a thriving empire, it was devastated by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD when 30 feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone covered the city.
Upon arrival in Pompeii, you will enter by one of its ancient gates, and a short walk will take you to the city's hub, the Forum. Surrounded by lavish temples and porticoes, you'll begin to grasp the lifestyle of the inhabitants. Admire the mansions and the art of wealthy patricians who moved to Pompeii to escape the turmoil of Rome; view countless paintings and inscriptions. See the streets with raised pavements on both sides and the stepping-stones that ensured pedestrians a safe crossing at intersections. Your guided visit to Pompeii is approximately two hours.
After your visit to Pompeii, sit back and enjoy an approximately 90 minute to 2 hour scenic driving tour along the Bay of Naples, and then over the mountain to the Amalfi Coast. You'll drive to the picturesque seaside resort of Amalfi, which lies at the mouth of a deep gorge. It is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Italy. As a sea power, Amalfi played an important role in the Middle Ages. It was part of the four Maritime Republics that included Venice, Genoa and Pisa. You will spend a total of about 2 hours in Amalfi, including approximately 90 minutes of free time on your own to purchase lunch, shop, take photos, purchase an optional cruise along the coast, or stroll along the narrow streets to the Piazza del Duomo. From this square, a flight of 60 or more steps leads to the impressive Cathedral of St. Andrew. The interior of the church dates as far back as the 13th century with the highlight of the cathedral being the 11th century bronze doors from Constantinople.
At the appointed time, you will return for the 90 minute to 2 hour drive back to Naples.
Please Note: Crowds are to be expected at all sites and lines for certain attractions may exceed over one hour to enter. The tour itinerary may be reversed but will still cover the mentioned sights. Heavy traffic congestion should be anticipated and may affect the duration of the excursion. On select days or holidays, heavy delays in traffic may contribute to a change of itinerary at the operator's discretion. The scenic driving portion and free time in Amalfi are not guided or narrated. The entrance fee to Pompeii is included, and your tour of the ruins is guided. This Naples cruise tour does not include Sorrento.

This was my favorite excursion on our Eastern Mediterranean cruise. The vehicle was air conditioned and comfortable. Our tour guide was amazing. First stop was at a cameo factory...amazing process. We had lunch at a cute café before heading to the ruins. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and we learned so much. My teenage kids had a wonderful time as well. Highly recommend this tour!
It was literally a "dream-come-true" moment to actually get to experience something that most people in the western world have heard of but will never get to visit. The guide did an amazing job of relaying historic information in a manner that was interesting and engaging.

Andrew or Andrea our guild was THE best! Funny and knowledgeable, we had the BEST ever tour of the Amalfi Coast on a tour boat, a great city bus tour, then food at a pizza restaurant across from Pompeii for excellent value and with excellent service ! Don’t miss the wood fired hand made pizza at Ristorante Turistico! Pompeii is not to. E missed..our guide was outstanding! A tour of a lifetime for us., thank you!!! I will ask that the guides hold a larger sign as each tour took a while to find the right guide...please and thanks.
we loved Debbie our tour guide! we had a small group of 9, she took us to a great Italian restaurant complete with wine for lunch, very reasonably priced and we were also able to go on a boat tour to see Amalfi from the sea. Pompeii was unexpectedly a great part of history and so glad we went.
