Exclusive Tour to Pompeii and Amalfi Coast
Departing from the Maritime Station cruise pier in groups of never more than 30 people, you will meet your guide and your driver, who take you on an approximately 45 minute drive along the road that follows the Bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius and the ancient City of Pompeii, which lies in its shadow. Ironically, one of the ancient world's worst disasters preserved time in Pompeii, where you will experience life as it was lived in 79 AD. Once a thriving empire, it was devastated by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD when 30 feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone covered the city.
Upon arrival in Pompeii, you will enter by one of its ancient gates, and a short walk will take you to the city's hub, the Forum. Surrounded by lavish temples and porticoes, you'll begin to grasp the lifestyle of the inhabitants. Admire the mansions and the art of wealthy patricians who moved to Pompeii to escape the turmoil of Rome; view countless paintings and inscriptions. See the streets with raised pavements on both sides and the stepping-stones that ensured pedestrians a safe crossing at intersections. Your guided visit to Pompeii is approximately two hours.
After your visit to Pompeii, sit back and enjoy an approximately 90 minute to 2 hour scenic driving tour along the Bay of Naples, and then over the mountain to the Amalfi Coast. You'll drive to the picturesque seaside resort of Amalfi, which lies at the mouth of a deep gorge. It is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Italy. As a sea power, Amalfi played an important role in the Middle Ages. It was part of the four Maritime Republics that included Venice, Genoa and Pisa. You will spend a total of about 2 hours in Amalfi, including approximately 90 minutes of free time on your own to purchase lunch, shop, take photos, purchase an optional cruise along the coast, or stroll along the narrow streets to the Piazza del Duomo. From this square, a flight of 60 or more steps leads to the impressive Cathedral of St. Andrew. The interior of the church dates as far back as the 13th century with the highlight of the cathedral being the 11th century bronze doors from Constantinople.
At the appointed time, you will return for the 90 minute to 2 hour drive back to Naples.
Please Note: Crowds are to be expected at all sites and lines for certain attractions may exceed over one hour to enter. The tour itinerary may be reversed but will still cover the mentioned sights. Heavy traffic congestion should be anticipated and may affect the duration of the excursion. On select days or holidays, heavy delays in traffic may contribute to a change of itinerary at the operator's discretion. The scenic driving portion and free time in Amalfi are not guided or narrated. The entrance fee to Pompeii is included, and your tour of the ruins is guided. This Naples cruise tour does not include Sorrento.

Trip from pier to Amalfi was approx 1.5 hrs in a 12 passenger van over mountain. The road was steep and very winding. People susceptible to motion sickness may want to avoid this excursion. Amalfi was a beautiful shore front town with shopping and restaurants. Pompeii was very interesting, We would have liked more time there. We spent approx two hrs there. Tour Guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant.

Pompeii was an excellent place to visit. So much history and destruction, don't miss this tour. The Amalfi Coast was spectacular with it's winding roads and houses on the cliffs. Take a boat ride to get a better view of the terrain. Then walk around the town for eats and shopping.

Great tour guide and tour. Danielle (?) was informative, organized and did a great job in suggesting we do the boat ride at the Amalfi Coast. Loved the tour and the passion and energy of our guide.
It turns out we were the only ones taking the tour that day so we had our very own driver with a Mercedes and a tour guide!! Need I say more?

Our guide was great. We got into the Pompeii site efficiently and her historical insights were really good. One comes away with a great perspective on what happened here two thousand years ago. Amalfi was lovely although there was some traffic and the bus had to wait to go through the one lane tunnel. We paid the extra 15 Euros each for the boat ride which was worth it. You get to see the splendor of the Amalfi villages from the sea. (Sofia Loren's house!) The drive back to port took us up the hill and through the tunnel, with gorgeous vistas all the way up the hill. Time (and money) well spent.
