Best of Tallinn Bicycle Tour

Discover the beauty of Tallinn, Estonia in a truly unique way with a guided bicycle tour. A bicycle tour allows you to see the city's many highlights while enjoying fresh air and getting some exercise.

Your bike tour begins at the ship pier, where you will join your professional guide and choose between a classical low frame bicycle or a trekking bicycle and then continue to set out on your excursion. Your first stop is the magnificent summer residence of Peter the Great - Kadriorg Palace. Kadriog Palace was built in 1718 by Tsar Peter I and named for his beloved wife Catherine. Today the beautifully red and white adorned palace is home to Estonia's president as well as the foreign art collection of the Estonian Art Museum.

Adjacent to the palace you will ride through the palace's splendid park and gardens. This is one of many excellent photo opportunities during your tour. Departing the gardens, you will pedal to the Song Festival Grounds, where Estonians sang themselves to independence under a huge song arch. You will also see the nearby Maarjamae World War II memorial.

Departing the Song Festival Grounds, you will cycle along the scenic seaside towards Old Town. Upon reaching Old Town you will pedal along its ancient walls as you head to the town hall square. During your journey you will get a view of the charming streets of this very unique district. Cobblestones, courtyards, shops and markets make up this beautiful Medieval area, where you will experience an atmosphere dating back to the 12th century. Once you reach the center of the Old Town, also known as the old marketplace, Town Hall Square, and the Town Hall itself, which is the best-preserved Medieval town hall in Northern Europe, you will have free time for shopping, exploring and having a snack. Departing Old Town, you will return to the ship pier.

Ride along guests (weighing no more than 70 pounds) will be accommodated in a trailer attached behind the bike.

This is right outside the cruise ship at the pier/terminal. Perfect for a good overview of city. The guide was great and provided good history and fun facts. Highly recommend.

Unimpressive tour
August 24, 2019
While a bike tour allows access to some places a bus could never go, the places we went to were mostly unremarkable. We started late because there weren’t enough bikes. We had to wait for an earlier group to return their bikes. Unlike a bus tour, there were few opportunities for conversation while pedaling. When we did stop there wasn’t a lot of time to talk about where we were or why. (There were exceptions, such as the Palace and a park which was underwhelming). I wish there was more time in Old Town to sightsee AND get something to eat, but sitting at one of the many restaurants on the Square took all but a couple of minutes be the return trip. Admittedly, the Marathon that was being run that day throughout the town caused delays and detours which didn’t help make a successful and efficient tour. All of that being said, I would return to Tallinn, but not on a bicycle. Conversations at dinner back onboard the ship made me curious about all of the things we missed.

Didn’t see much of Tallinn
August 15, 2019
While a bike tour allows you to go places a bus could never get to, the places we visited weren’t really worth it. The tour company was disorganized. There were not enough bikes (initially) for the group and we started late while waiting for the earlier tour to return their bikes. The guide/owner was pleasant enough, but there wasn’t a lot of time at most of the stops to allow for more detailed description of where we were and why. Of course, unlike a bus tour, there is little opportunity for conversation, narration, storytelling, etc. while riding. All of this being said, this tour whetted our appetite enough to want to re-visit Tallinn—just not on a bike.

It was easy to locate the excursion meeting place. Our tour guide took us around Tallinn with stops at many sights. He was knowledgable about Tallinn and gave us time to look around when we got to the sites. It was a great way to see the town, learn about its history and have a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Highly recommended excursion!
