Blue Agave Trail Hike
Blue Agave Trail Hike
Your adventurous day of discovery begins after you travel from the pier area on a scenic ride to a hacienda approximately 40-minutes ride away. The hacienda is on the grounds of Vinata Los Osuna and the agave plantation. Your guide will orient you with the local area, provide you with a walking stick, and then you are ready to set off on your unique hike. Listen to local stories and legends from this culturally rich region in this ecosystem from your own local and knowledgeable guide.
After approximately 35 to 40-minutes, you will find buried deep in the land of Los Osuna resides an old tequila factory dating back almost 140 years. The Blue Agave Trail flows through Cardon cactus forests, fruit trees, blue agave fields and leads to the secluded ruins of this old clandestine distillery. Explore tequila's history in Sinaloa on this hike on a trail used by the factory workers over a hundred years ago and discover the flora and fauna of the tropical deciduous forest. Keep your eyes open for the chance to spot local wildlife such as white-tailed deer, wild boars, and Mexican chachalaca.
Be welcomed to the Los Osuna blue agave distillery and learn the artisanal process of manufacturing agave and taste several locally made tequilas. Continue from here to visit La Noria for another walk and discover this artisanal town. Pay a visit to Dona Carolina's home for a delicious and authentic homemade traditional lunch prepared with local and regional ingredients. Food may vary during the changing seasons, but selections may include tortillas, queso fresco, tatemada sauce, machaca and bean soup with mini corn gorditas.
Get immersed in the artisanal production process of this award-winning tequila product by meeting the people behind it, visiting the factory and getting to taste the different types of tequila they produce. Taste the local cuisine and connect with the town of La Noria, as Doa Carolina opens her house and shares one of her secret recipes with you, a day you will always remember when you visit Mazatlan!
Please Note: This 'Moderate' hike is recommended for guests looking for a bit more of a challenge. Guests can expect slight slopes where trail conditions may be rough in short sections and with loose dirt. It's an easy and enjoyable hike with little steep slopes and flat rock, well-compacted ground terrain trails.
