the Five Towns of Cinque Terre

On this Livorno excursion, enjoy a private tour of two or three towns of Cinque Terre in the Italian Riviera. You will travel in style in a luxury Mercedes minivan with your own driver, exploring the beautiful western coast of Italy.

Cinque Terre is comprised of five fishing villages that are essentially chiseled into the cliffsides, a dramatic outcropping of soft yellows, salmon pinks, and dusty terra cotta. The beautiful and colorful houses date back to the Middle Ages.

A railway cuts into the cliffs, weaving in and out of tunnels, leading to the castles and churches peppered into these old towns. Gardens and paths sit atop low stone walls that wind along the cliff. Walking paths and trails allow for beautiful views of the bays and beaches, mountains, and cliffs.

Riomaggiore is the largest village, situated farthest east. This is the classic view of pastel buildings stacked atop one another, leading down to the water. It only takes around 25 minutes to stroll the length, but you may want to take some extra time off from the famous Walk of Love to sit down and take in the stunning views. As you approach the Manarola side, look out for padlocks placed as faithful promises by young lovers.

The oldest of the Cinque Terre towns, Manarola is renowned for its local wine, Sciacchetra. During your Livorno excursion, you'll have the opportunity to purchase some before your drive to Vernazza, a colorful jewel of a fishing village. Winding streets lead to a marina below, where fishing boats bob in the small harbor, all beautiful sights on their own, but it's the arc of villas that surge from the Mediterranean coastline into the sky like an architectural rainbow that is truly awe-inspiring.

After purchasing lunch in one of Vernazza's many charming trattorias, it's off to the Corniglia, which is perched higher in the mountainsides, surrounded by vineyards and lush terraces. A coastal road will bring you back to the beachfront in Monterosso. Famous for its fragrant lemons, the town even has a festival celebrating the fruit on the third 6 of May.

After you have explored these two/three gems, your driver will return you and your guests to Livorno.
