Full Day Sintra Deluxe Tour

Full-Day Sintra Deluxe Tour
Dotted by royal retreats, estates, castles, and buildings from the 8th-9th century, this charming region is the site of the royal family's summer residence.
Departing from Lisbon, you will travel to the mountainous location of Sintra, approximately 15 miles north of Lisbon. Upon arrival, you will visit the Pena Palace of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. The palace constitutes one of the major expressions of 19th-century Romanticism in the world. The President of the Portuguese Republic and other government officials often uses it for state occasions. The palace stands on the top of a hill above the town of Sintra, and on a clear day, it can be easily seen from many locations in Lisbon. The current-day palace stems from a monastery that started around 1500 A.D.
You will also have some free time in the late morning to explore handicraft stores and tea houses and savor some of the famous local sweets: queijadas and travesseiros. You may also take lunch on your own while looking out over the surrounding mountains.
Departing Sintra, you will visit Colares, a demarcated wine region with quite a reputation. From here, you will drive to nearby Cabo da Roca (the most westerly point of Europe), before continuing along the coast to Cascais. On the way, you'll stop by Guincho Beach, a favorite among windsurfers. Driving through the town you will be able to see the Boca do Inferno wave feature and the magnificent panorama over the Bay of Cascais and adjoining coastline. On your return to Lisbon, you'll pass by Estoril, home to the famous casino.
Please Note: On Wednesdays, the Palace in Sintra is closed and will be replaced with a visit to the Queluz Palace.
