Visit Ensenada, Baja California Mexico By Bike

Located a little over 100km (62 miles) from San Diego lies the eclectic city of Ensenada, affectionately referred to by the locals as the Cinderella of the Pacific.

This coastal city is the third-largest in Baja California and over the years has morphed from an original, sleepy settlement city into an aerospace center, blossoming wine region and popular cruise ship destination. It is also the destination of the annual Rosarito Ensenada cycling event, an award-winning 50-mile race along the Pacific coast from Rosarito Beach to the beautiful Ensenada waterfront.

During your 3.5-hour cycling tour, you will hop on a beach cruiser, with back pedal breaks and no shifts, and hit the hot spots in the city for its delicious food and quirky culture. Ride along the Malecon then stop at the nearby Plaza de Las Tres Cabezas to view large sculptures memorializing the city's founders; while here you will be greeted by one of the three largest and tallest Mexican flags in the country. At the former Rivera de Ensenada Hotel, you can belly up to the Andaluz bar where the margarita was invented and taste the original version of this world-famous drink for yourself.

Cruise through the boardwalk at the Playa Hermosa and enjoy one of the best ceviche in Mexico at the La Guerrerense, a ceviche stand that snagged a third-place prize at the Singapore World Street Food Congress and has been the decorated winner of the 2011 and 2012 LA Street Food Fests. Your journey to Ensenada isn't complete until you sink your teeth into an authentic taco at a taco stand locals rated Ensenada's best taco in 2017.

Throughout your, the friendly, knowledgeable English-speaking guide will share fascinating facts and stories about the culture and people of this Baja California gem! Reserve your bike today.

Great way to see Ensenada

If you have ever learned how to ride a bike and are reasonably fit, this is a great tour to consider. It was just the two of us and our guide, and we had a fabulous experience. The tour operators looked a little worried when I first climbed on my bike and started pedaling around, but it came back to me, lol. The bikes only have pedal brakes, no gears, and we were provided with a water bottle, mandatory helmets and orange vests. Fernando was an excellent guide and I felt very safe throughout our tour. It was fun visiting so many places and learning all about them from our guide, and the food we sampled was delicious.

Ensenada by Bike with Artemio
October 08, 2022
You need to be able to climb three flights of stairs to do the tour: the pace was easy but there was only two of us on the tour. I heard that Ensenada was EnseNOda, thankfully I went and saw for myself. I had an expert tour guide in Artemio. He is very personable, with an easy laugh. He is also very learned about Mexican History, being a local of Ensenada, he bought the town to life. The streets are noisy and busy but we were safely guided through, stopping at certain vantage points for a rest and to hear the town come alive with Artemio's historical narrative. His stories about Ensendan/Mexician history whet my appetite to experience more of the Baja Coast. I don't drink but the margarita on offer looked amazing: the fish tacos were 100% more delicious than anything I have tried at a certain food chain the specializes in fish tacos in the U.S. I could have walked around the shopping district, waving off requests from the sellers touting their goods, but Ensenada has more to offer.

Excellence on two wheels

When visiting an unfamiliar place or location it can be a bit tricky? Hard to find your bearings, not sure where to go, or what to see and how to get there when you do know where you want to go. Thanks to Shore Excursions bike tour we didn't have to worry about a single thing. Fernando was an amazing guide and host, very knowledgeable about the area and culture. He lead us all over the city and showed us some wonderful sites. Feeding us facts and fun items of history along the way. We stopped for tacos, which were amazing, then we were off again. The next stop was a beautifully tiled building and old casino, which was the birth place of the margarita. We had a couple and let me tell you they were the best we have ever had. Next it was off to cruise the beautiful streets of the downtown shopping area. Here we stopped off for the most incredible ceviche tostada we have ever tasted. It was an absolute amazing time, with stunning views and incredible food.

Great bike tour with much historical commentary
December 24, 2021
One of the many reasons we love Shore Excursions Group is the small group experiences. The group can be so small at times that at times it can just be you and the tour guide. That was the case with us for this tour. For a tour that wasn't available through the cruise line and for a bargain rate, we had our very own private tour guide and we felt like VIPs! Our tour guide, Artemio, a 40 year resident of the town and a triathlete, provided in-depth historical commentary of the town, the area, and its people. The bike ride itself was casual and leisurely and at each stop, our tour guide would speak for several minutes on a historical event. We made several stops to locations such as a look out point, the fish market, a local taco shop (where your first taco is included), and Ensenada's only remaining standing historical building. This is by far the best bike tour we have had in Mexico and one of our most memorable ones thanks to our tour guide Artemio.

Our guide Sarah was amazing!!
January 21, 2020
We went to Ensenada on Wed 1/15/2020 on a Carnival cruise. We took this non-cruise excursion bike tour with Sarah. She was so nice, friendly and very knowledgeable. Her English is excellent too. You could tell she loves her job and loves her hometown of Ensenada. We saw things and went places we would never have known about. Yet she was very accommodating to my husband's limitations on uphill rides. She was also patient with all our questions. We had such a fantastic time. The bicycles were very comfortable and easy to ride. Plus the tacos and ceviche were fantastic!! We highly recommend.
