As you meander through the Gothic Quarter's quaint streets and plazas, your professional, English-speaking guide will provide you with fascinating information about this marvelous quarter's extensive history.

One highlight of this Barcelona walking tour is Placa Sant Jaume, often considered Barcelona's administrative center. Here you will find the famous palace Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya, the Town House, and the Church of Sant Jaume, from which the square derives its name. Next, you'll explore the narrow streets leading to the Placa del Rei, a unique site and the historic center of power during the reign of the Catalan counts and monarchs. Beneath the square lie the remains of the Roman city of Barcino, and the medieval city above it. Marvel at the the Barcelona Cathedral, built in different artistic styles, next to the important surviving sections of the Roman walls.

My wife, adult daughter, and I throughly enjoyed the descriptions of historic sites and incidents. The highlight was returning later in the day to the cathedral, at the recommendation of the guide, to observe local ethnic music and dancing. What a treat!!!

Starting early was ideal...not as crowded. So much to see and learn about. Walking and talking would have been easier than standing for lengthier lectures.
