Your exciting journey begins as you depart for Ciudad Vieja which is a great place to walk and feel Montevideo's local culture. On one side of Independence Square is the Gateway of the Citadel. On the other, the beginning of 18 de Julio Avenue. El Prado is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Montevideo and a major public park. Tree-lined streets serve as home to a collection of mansions built in the 20th century. At Parque Batlle you can stroll through the largest public park in the city. While here pause at La Carreta, a stunning bronze monument depicting oxen pulling a covered wagon. It is considered the "lung" of Montevideo because of its abundant trees planted over 150 acres. Battle Park is also home to Cenenario Stadium, one of the most important stadiums for South American and international soccer. The stadium was inaugurated in 1930 for the World Cup.
Approximately one hour north of downtown Montevideo you will visit Bodega Juanico, one of the largest and most beautiful wineries in Uruguay, for a 3 course lunch and wine tasting.
