Hoonah City and Craft Brewery Tour

This 2-hour tour is a perfect introduction to the small, close-knit village of Hoonah located on Chichagof Island, the 5th largest in the United States.

This unique tour starts with a short but scenic ride to the largest Tlingit settlement in Alaska. Hoonah is many things in a small package: a lively fishing village, an old logging town and a beautiful place to visit. Your friendly guide will take you on an excursion through this fishing village, stopping along the way for photo opportunities while giving you information about living in Alaska and living off the land. Learn how the early Tlingit Indians migrated from the shores of Glacier Bay and how the entire village of Hoonah burned down in 1944.

Discover how the village almost doubles in size over the summer months as a myriad of fishers, boaters, hunters and hikers flock to the area to take advantage of the abundant wildlife and gorgeous nature settings.

Following the city tour, you are next off to Icy Strait Brewing, one of South East Alaska's hidden treasures. Using the crystal-clear water from the mountain streams of Chichagof Island, Icy Strait Brewing crafts several styles of beer on site. Guests 21 and older will be given a token good for a flight of 3 (Light, Medium and Dark) beers, and sampling of fresh popcorn seasoned with a locally sourced kelp blend.

Book now and get ready to immerse yourself in the beauty and culture that is Hoonah and Alaska and have a true and delicious taste of the region!

We enjoyed our Tour Guide sharing incredible stories of Hoonah through his lens & life experiences including knowing what to do in the scenario we ran into a Bear! Anna & Katie of Vancouver, BC (Passengers of Celebrity Eclipse/Sept 8th, 2019 Sailing)

The last time we were in Icy Straight was 5 years ago and the place has changed! Great visitors and adventure center, easy to get around. Our tour consisted of 4 of us in a very comfortable small bus. Our driver and guide was the chief of the Raven clan in Hoonah. We learned so much history from him, saw whales and salmon, totems and enjoyed the beer and company. Great tour and a lovely, untouched part of old Alaska.

Tour guide was great - a native of the island and clan leader. His personal stories were informative and he answered the many questions we had. The "Craft Brewery Tour" is slightly misleading. You basically stop to get a flight of three beers at the bar right in town (it's a token so I opted for one beer I knew I could drink). My husband enjoyed it.

We enjoyed our Hoonah City and Craft Brewery Tour. Our driver was the Chief of the Tribe of natives there and shared many stories and history of his Tribe and their town.. We were taken around Hoonah and our samples of the beer were very generous. I am glad we chose to do this tour.

Our guide was personable and told us all about the history of Hoonah and its people. We saw artists carving a totem pole in town, and were able to ask questions and learn more about that process. The brewery was a fun way to end the day, and the beer was good!
